Merkel ready to let Greece exit eurozone: report

Posted:

BERLIN:(AFP) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel is prepared to let Greece leave the eurozone if Greeks elect a government that jettisons the countrys current austerity course, Germanys Der Spiegel news weekly reported Saturday. The report, which cited sources close to the German government, comes as polls show a radical leftist party leading the field three weeks ahead of a snap election in Greece. The Syriza party of Alexis Tsipras has pledged to reverse reforms imposed by Greeces international creditors and renegotiate its bailout deal. The German government considers a eurozone exit (by Greece) to be almost inevitable if opposition leader Alexis Tsipras leads the government after the election and abandons budgetary discipline and does not repay the countrys debts, Der Spiegel reported on its website. Both Merkel and Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble had come to view a potential Greek exit from the 19-currency eurozone in a less dramatic light, the report explained. They both now felt such an outcome would be bearable, Der Spiegel quoted unnamed sources as saying. The recovery underway in other formerly problem economies such as Ireland and Portugal, establishment of a permanent eurozone bailout fund and creation of a banking union all bolstered Berlins belief that the contagion from a fresh Greek crisis would be limited, the report added.Greeces parliament was dissolved Wednesday after the assembly failed to agree on a successor to outgoing President Karolos Papoulias in three successive votes. The dissolution of parliament triggered a snap election that will take place on January 25.

Libyan Islamists abduct 20 Egypt Christians: govt

Posted:

BENGHAZI, Libya: (AFP) - Islamist militants have abducted 20 Egyptian Christians in Libya in recent days, a source close to the government said Saturday. The Ansar al-Sharia militia had kidnapped 13 of them Saturday in the coastal city of Sirte and the rest of them there over the past few days, the source said.Their identity was not immediately clear, except that they were said to be Coptic Christians. Thousands of Egyptians work in Libya, mainly in the construction and craft sectors, and several have been killed in recent years. In February, the bodies of seven Egyptian Christians who had been shot were found near the second city of Benghazi. And just last week, an Egyptian Coptic couple were found dead in their home in Sirte, hometown of longtime dictator Moamer Kadhafi, who was overthrown and killed in a popular uprising three years ago.Their 13-year-old daughter, who was kidnapped, was later found dead. Local council chairman Yussef Tebeiqa said the attack might have been motivated by religion as money and jewellery were not taken.Sirte, 500 kilometres (310 miles) east of Tripoli, is in the hands of Islamist militias, including Ansar al-Sharia, which the UN Security Council last month added to its terror list over links to Al-Qaeda and for running Islamic State group training camps.Since Kadhafis ouster, Libyas small Christian minority has expressed fears over Islamic extremism, especially with the rise of armed militias enforcing their own law in the absence of central control.

Griezmann double keeps Atletico on Real's shoulder

Posted:

MADRID: (AFP) - La Liga champions Atletico Madrid remained in the race to retain their title with a comfortable 3-1 win over Levante on Saturday thanks to two goals from Antoine Griezmann. With Fernando Torres watching on from the stands before his move back to his boyhood club is concluded on Monday, Griezmann was under pressure to continue his fine form after scoring a hat-trick as Atletico closed 2014 with a 4-1 win away to Athletic Bilbao two weeks ago.And he duly obliged with two headed finishes from close range early in each half before Diego Godin nodded in Atleticos third after Nabil El Zhars deflected effort had given Levante hope.Atletico are now level with Barcelona in second place and one point behind leaders Real Madrid, with the latter two sides in action against Real Sociedad and Valencia respectively on Sunday.Torres was the star attraction before kick-off as he took his seat in the directors box to much acclaim. However, on the field, Griezmann ensured Los Rojiblancos former captain will find it hard to get into the side for the visit of Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.Simeone, though, suggested Griezmann could eventually move out wide, where he has played for the majority of his career, to make way for Torres.More than just the goals, which are important for him and the team, I like when he tracks back, works and when he wins the ball back to be able to attack from better positions, Simeone said of Griezmann. He can play in different positions, as well as on the wing where he has played before. Not all games are equal and there could be times when all the forwards play.Griezmann put Simeones men in front on 18 minutes when Guilherme Siqueiras cross from the left looped into the Frenchmans path and he nodded past the helpless Diego Marino.Atletico should have extended their lead before half-time as Arda Turan fired just over, Mario Mandzukic saw a goal ruled out for handball and Marino then made a fine save to deny the Croatian from point-blank range.Yet, they looked to have made the game safe just 60 seconds into the second period as, despite more heroics from Marino to claw a Mandzukic header off the line, he couldnt react in time to prevent Griezmanns follow-up effort crossing the line. The unlucky Mandzukic saw another header drift wide and Tiagos deflected shot flew into the side-netting as Atletico continued to dominate. However, they were stunned just after the hour mark when Levante halved the deficit.Mandzukic was again heavily involved as he did brilliantly to turn Victor Casadesuss header off his own line, but the ball fell to Ivan Lopez and his drive clipped El Zhar on its way into the far corner.Simeone then withdrew Turan and Mandzukic with one eye to Wednesdays repeat of last seasons Champions League final against Real. And, not for the first time this season, the Argentines side needed to rely on their threat from set-pieces to seal the three points eight minutes from time when Godin headed home Tiagos in-swinging cross.Elsewhere, Sevilla moved above Valencia into fourth, but were far from convincing in a 1-0 win over 10-man Celta Vigo. The visitors were forced to play 70 minutes with a man less after Carles Planas was shown a straight red card for chopping down Denis Suarez.Nico Pareja then scored the only goal of the game from a free-kick 12 minutes later to continue Sevillas unbeaten record at home this season.

Italy 'ghost ship' migrants paid up to USD 8000 each to traffickers

Posted:

CORIGLIANO, Italy: (AFP) - Italian authorities disembarked 360 cold and hungry migrants Saturday from a ship left adrift by its crew off the countrys coast, with some having paid up to $8,000 to traffickers for the perilous journey. It was the latest in a wave of such incidents involving migrants crossing the Mediterranean to flee conflict and poverty in the Middle East and Africa and attempting to reach Europe by sea.The migrants have been preyed upon by people smugglers, who have recently resorted to a new tactic of abandoning ghost ships full of desperate travellers off European coasts.Women and children were among hundreds of migrants left stranded aboard the Ezadeen, which docked in the Italian port of Corigliano Calabro around 11:00 pm Friday after a delicate operation by the Italian navy to take control of the ageing vessel. Its arrival was one in a series of maritime dramas that Italy has grappled with in recent days, and which have brought some 2,000 rescued migrants to Italian soil.Italian prefect Gianfranco Tomao told reporters migrants can now pay traffickers between $4,000 and $8,000 for passage to Europe.Passengers aboard the Ezadeen had paid amounts in that range, he said, and the ship was later left to drift in stormy seas off southern Italy without fuel or electricity. Some confusion remained about whether the vessels crew jumped ship, or as some passengers suspect, simply peeled off masks theyd worn during the crossing, then melted in among migrant passengers to be rescued as naval ships neared. Most of the 232 men, 54 women and 74 children aboard are thought to be Syrians fleeing war in their homeland. They were all said to be in good health.Six coastguard officers were lowered from a helicopter onto the deck of the Sierra Leone-flagged vessel on Friday to set up a tow for the 40 kilometres (25 miles) to the Italian coast.‘We are alone’The nearly 50-year-old Ezadeen was spotted by a coastguard plane 80 miles offshore shortly after nightfall Thursday.A female migrant raised the alarm over the ships radio, telling authorities the crew had abandoned the vessel, coastguard spokesman Captain Filippo Marini said. We are alone, there is no one, help us Marini quoted her as saying.Icelandic patrol boat Tyr, which was in the area on a mission with the European Unions border agency Frontex, came to the rescue, but rough weather conditions made boarding the ship impossible. After the Ezadeen ran out of fuel, five Tyr crew members were winched onto the ship by helicopter to care for passengers until the Italian coastguard arrived. The migrants aboard were visibly distressed but overall in good medical condition. They have been provided with food, water and basic medical assistance, a Frontex statement said Friday. The incident marked the third sea rescue operation Italys navy has been forced to mount in a week. The first arose after a deadly fire broke out on the Norman Atlantic ferry Sunday between Greece and Italy.Italian prosecutors fear the Norman Atlantic, which was towed to the port of Brindisi Friday, could contain the bodies of illegal immigrants and unregistered passengers yet to be discovered.Bari prosecutor Giuseppe Volpe said almost 500 people may have been aboard -- far above the 474 officially on the manifest -- prompting fears the current death toll of 13 may rise once the ferry is fully searched.Ettore Cardinali, the magistrate leading the investigative portion of Volpes case, told reporters Saturday that his first search of the Norman Atlantic had turned up no additional victims. However, when he first entered the ferry to recover its black box data recorder Friday, Cardinali noted important sections of the vessel remain inaccessible due to safety concerns, and that it would take time for a complete sweep of the ship to determine whether any other victims were trapped in it.New smuggling tacticsThree days after the ferry fire, the Italian navy stopped its first crewless ghost ship of the week, which had been left drifting with around 770 migrants on board. The Blue Sky M freighter was on autopilot, after having been abandoned by the people smugglers who had sailed it from Turkey. The Moldovan-registered Blue Sky M got within five miles of running aground before six navy officers were lowered on to the ship by helicopter and succeeded in bringing it under control. Some of the migrants were treated for hypothermia and injuries, including broken limbs.More than 170,000 people have been rescued at sea by Italy in the last 14 months, and hundreds, possibly thousands, have perished trying to make the crossing. The International Organisation for Migration estimated Friday that people smugglers grossed over $1 million (830,000 euros) on just one of this weeks abandoned ships alone.

Girl, 7, survives US plane crash that kills 4 in her family

KUTTAWA, Kentucky: (AP) - A 7-year-old girl who survived a plane crash in rural Kentucky had trekked about a mile without shoes in near-freezing temperatures in order to find help, a witness told The Associated Press on Saturday.Bloodied but free of major injuries, the girl knocked on the door of the first home she found that of Larry Wilkins of Kuttawa, Kentucky. He was stunned when he opened the door Friday evening, only to see a young girl bleeding from various injuries and sobbing.I come to the door and theres a little girl, 7 years old, bloody nose, bloody arms, bloody legs, one sock, no shoes, crying, Wilkins, 71, told The Associated Press in an interview Saturday. She told me that her mom and dad were dead, and she had been in a plane crash, and the plane was upside down.Kentucky State Police Sgt. Dean Patterson said Federal Aviation Administration officials have arrived at the scene to try to determine why the small Piper PA-34 crashed as it flew over rural southwestern Kentucky early Friday evening. The plane had reported engine trouble and lost contact with air traffic controllers shortly before the 5:55 p.m. CST crash, authorities said. About a half hour later, emergency dispatchers received a call from Wilkins, who reported that a girl who had been involved in a plane crash had walked to his home. The girl was treated at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky and released early Saturday, Patterson said. This girl came out of the wreckage herself and found the closest residence and reported the plane crash, Patterson said. Its a miracle in a sense that she survived it, but its tragic that four others didnt.Patterson said the girl was the daughter of the two adults who died in the crash, Marty Gutzler, 48; and his wife, Kimberly Gutzler, 46. Also killed in the crash were the girls sister, Piper Gutzler, 9; and a cousin, Sierra Wilder, 14. All were from Nashville, Illinois. The bodies have been recovered and sent to Louisville for autopsies. In Nashville, a man stepped outside the familys white, split-level home on Saturday and politely waved off a reporter. Not now, he said, his head lowered, before he stepped back inside.Neighbors said Marty and Kim Gutzler had lifelong roots in the largely rural southern Illinois town about 50 miles (80 kilometers) east of St. Louis.Marty Gutzler ran the furniture store that his father started, and the couple was well-known and well-liked, said neighbor Carla Povolish. With two basketball hoops in the driveway, the Gutzlers home was the center of neighborhood fun on a block full of children. All the kids in the neighborhood are just so upset about this, she said.Povolish said the two sisters the crashs lone survivor and the one who perished were together constantly.Thats whats going to be so devastating for the little one, she said. The FAA said late Friday that the plane had taken off from Tallahassee Regional Airport, Florida, and was bound for Mount Vernon, Illinois. Patterson said the girl who survived indicated that the plane had left from Key West, Florida.Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board also were expected to get to the scene later Saturday, Patterson said. The pastor of a church near the crash site said the area was known for rough terrain and that the conditions Friday were wet due to persistent rain. That area is very rough and hilly, very heavily forested with mature trees, said the Rev. Dean Weber of the Chestnut Oak United Methodist Church in Kuttawa. Any plane crash in that area is going to be a severe ordeal.

Argentine court says US fugitive can be extradited

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina: (AP) - Argentinas Supreme Court has ruled that an American who took refuge and started a new life in the South American country can be extradited to face charges that he killed his wife over a decade ago.Kurt Sonnenfeld moved to Argentina in 2003 after prosecutors in Denver charged him with first-degree murder. The decision to extradite him brings to an end a longstanding dispute between the U.S. Justice Department and Argentine courts that centered in part on differences over a potential death penalty. In the Dec. 11 ruling, justices said U.S. prosecutors had assured Argentina that the death penalty would not be applied.Court spokeswoman Maria Bourdin confirmed the ruling but declined to comment beyond what was in it.

Extremists kidnap 40 males in northern Nigeria

BAUCHI, Nigeria: (AP) - Boko Haram extremists have kidnapped about 40 boys and young men and killed scores of soldiers in a bold attack on a multinational military base in northeast Nigeria, according to fleeing residents and an intelligence officer. The militants came to the remote village of Malari on Friday and urged people to come out and listen to a sermon, farmer Bulama Malam told reporters Saturday. After telling us that they wanted to preach to us, they began to select young men aged between 12 and 25, Malam said. I was lucky to escape because they only selected very young and able-bodied men.He spoke in Maiduguri, the capital of northeast Borno state, to which he escaped on foot.On Saturday, hundreds of the insurgents nearly overran the Multinational Joint Task Force base at Baga, on Nigerias northeast border with Chad, an intelligence officer told The Associated Press. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasnt authorized to speak to reporters. The multinational force includes soldiers from Nigeria and its neighbors to the north and northeast: Cameroon, Chad and Niger.Nigerias homegrown Boko Haram group has begun regionalizing the conflict, launching several attacks across the border in Cameroon in recent weeks.Boko Haram has increased the scope and number of its attacks since Nigerias military in October announced that the insurgents had agreed to a cease-fire. Boko Harams leader, Abubakar Shekau, denied that in a video. The insurgents drew international condemnation with the April kidnapping of 276 schoolgirls. The U.S., Britain, France and others sent intelligence officers, hostage negotiators and drone flights to help find the girls to no avail. Dozens of the girls escaped on their own, but 219 remain missing. The failure to rescue the girls has brought international condemnation also for Nigerias military and President Goodluck Jonathan, who is running for re-election on Feb. 14.Hundreds of other boys, girls, young men and women have been kidnapped by the insurgents. Some who escaped say the males are forced to fight for Boko Haram, while females are used as sex slaves and suicide bombers.

West Brom rout Gateshead 7-0 in FA Cup third round

LONDON: (AP) - West Brom thrashed fifth-tier Gateshead 7-0 in Tony Pulis first game as manager in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, while seventh-tier Blyth surrendered a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 against second-division Birmingham.Striker Saido Berahino fired four goals at The Hawthorns for West Brom, including a hat trick in 11 minutes. He volleyed the opener into the roof of the net in the 42nd, curled a tremendous shot beyond goalkeeper Adam Bartlett in the 46th, and completed his treble in the 53rd when he converted a cross from Chris Baird.Berahino got his fourth in the last minute after Chris Brunt, Victor Anichebe and James Morrison added their names onto the scoresheet in a ruthless display from the Premier League side.Until the first goal went in, we looked a little bit nervous, Pulis said, before heaping praise on Berahino. Hes obviously a very, very talented kid. I am looking forward to working with him.In a competition renowned for lower-league sides emerging victorious, Blyth looked set to overcome a five-tier difference and cause the upset of the day against Birmingham when captain Robbie Dale scored twice in six first-half minutes.More than 3,600 were packed into Blyths park, and they gave their team a standing ovation at halftime, with the prospect of making the fourth round for only the second time in their 116-year history. Then Birmingham exceeded Blyths quick double-strike with three goals in six minutes in the second half to win the tie. Were disappointed, but if someone had said before the game we were going to lose 3-2 and have a chance in the final minute we might have taken it, Blyth manager Tom Wade said.Dale, a barman in a side which also featured a taxi driver and plumber, wasnt looking forward to working on Sunday.I am due to open up at half past 11 on Sunday morning, Dale said. I asked the gaffer (manager) if I could do a shorter shift because I didnt know what mood I will be in today. (But) after a couple of goals I am planning to have a good night.Elsewhere, Swansea avoided embarrassment by routing fourth-tier Tranmere 6-2, with Bafetimbi Gomis spearheading its attack with two goals.Leicester beat fellow Premier League side Newcastle 1-0. A first-half header from forward Leonardo Ulloa was the difference.

Syria wants coordination with Lebanon on new visa rules

Posted:

BEIRUT (AP) -- Syrias ambassador to Lebanon called on Saturday for coordination with Lebanese authorities after Beirut announced plans to impose unprecedented restrictions on Syrians trying to enter Lebanon.Beginning Jan. 5, Syrians will require a visa to enter Lebanon, according to new regulations posted online by Lebanons General Directorate of General Security. The move marks the most significant attempt by Lebanese authorities to stem the influx of some 1.5 million Syrians who have sought refuge in Lebanon from the civil war raging in their homeland. For Lebanon, a country of 4.5 million, the flood of Syrian refugees has placed a tremendous strain on the countrys economy, resources, infrastructure and delicate sectarian balance. On Saturday, Syrian Ambassador Ali Abdel-Karim Ali said Damascus understands the new measures but that the issue of Syrians entering and leaving needs coordination and integration between the concerned parties in the two countries, according to Lebanons state news agency. The United Nations refugee agency is seeking clarification on several aspects of the rules, including how they will impact refugees already in Lebanon and whether people in immediate need of protection will still be allowed in, said Ron Redmond, a regional spokesman for UNHCR.Lebanon began imposing tighter restrictions on a more informal basis last summer. Since then, the number of refugee registrations in Lebanon has dropped by more than 50 percent, Redmond said.Thats an indication that a lot of people arent getting in here, Redmond said. But still, people are getting through, and we want to ensure that the most vulnerable do get through.More than 3 million people have fled Syrian since the countrys conflict began in March 2011. The vast majority of them have ended up in Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan and Iraq. These governments have been so stressed, and these countries put under such pressure with these huge numbers of refugees coming across, that we can understand why they feel its necessary to take action, Redmond said. We just want to ensure that nobody is being sent back to danger.

Ukraine TV lands in hot water over Russian pop songs

Posted:

KIEV (AFP) - One of Ukraines biggest TV networks faced the threat Friday of being taken off air for filling its highly-rated New Years Eve show with Russian pop songs beamed live from Moscow. The culture minister called the festive if at-times gaudy programme anti-Ukrainian. The national security and defence council chief saw it as part of a Kremlin-driven information war.And a Facebook campaign called for the stations Kiev office to be burned down by a group of nationalists clad in fatigues who were conducting an annual torchlight procession nearby. But then Inter has been no stranger to controversy since it was created in 1996 with a mission to suit all social groups -- an evident reference to the former Soviet republics numerous Russian speakers.Much of this notoriety stems from an ownership structure whose roots seem to run directly to the Kremlin.Inters controlling stake is split between a lawmaker who headed ousted president Viktor Yanukovychs Moscow-bached administration and a businessman who once traded in Russian gas.Tycoon Dmytro Firtash -- a mysterious figure who acknowledged ties to Russian organised crime in a US diplomatic cable cited by WikiLeaks -- has been out on bail in Austria since March awaiting possible extradition to the United States.Chicago prosecutors accuse Firtash of bribing Indian officials to secure the right to mine titanium that he intended to sell to the US aerospace giant Boeing.Inters other main stakeholder is Channel One, a dominant Russian state channel that accuses the Kiev government of being run by fascists who rose to power with the help of the US State Department and CIA.These owners have made sure the network devotes half its time to either sitcoms produced in Moscow or Soviet-era films that appeal to older people with fond memories of Ukraines communist past. The channel has consequently become a lightning rod for criticism from far-right groups and -- most recently -- the pro-Western leaders who replaced Yanukovych after months of winter protests that Inter covered with a mixture of criticism and scorn.- Criminal crooners -=======================Inters biggest sin in the eyes of Ukraines top officials was giving New Years Eve airtime to Iosif Kobzon -- a seemingly ageless crooner and Russian parliament member who some compare to Frank Sinatra for both his popularity and voice.Kobzon was born in the Russian-speaking eastern half of Ukraine and has recently emerged as one of Moscows most scathing critics of the new Kiev leadership. His open support of Russias annexation of Crimea has also made him into a persona non grata in Ukraine -- a status he first received from the United States in 1995 for his alleged involvement in illegal drug trafficking. In keeping with its tradition, Inter undermined the state by airing the concert of people who taunted our country by supporting terrorists and welcoming the seizure of Crimea, national security and defence council secretary Oleksandr Turchynov fumed.Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenkos spokesman tweeted that the national network must publically answer for the anti-Ukrainian performances. And the countrys media council planned a special January 15 meeting devoted to the culture ministers request that Inter be stripped of its licence. Some television critics were especially upset that Inters traditional New Years Eve countdown to midnight featured a clock running on Moscow time. Therefore Inter celebrated New Year when the clocks in Ukraine struck 11:00 pm.The station itself pleaded innocence and said it fully complied with the law.The recent criticism of Inter is unprecedented and unjustified, Inter said in a statement on its website on Friday. The channel accused Poroshenkos allies of putting political pressure on the media and demanded that they take a more civilised approach towards the audience and television material producers.Inter added that its Russian pop concert was watched by 11 million Ukrainians and had an audience share of nearly 25 percent -- the best performance of any channel on the night.

South Africa aim for big lead

Posted:

CAPE TOWN (AFP) - South African captain Hashim Amla made a patient half-century as he and AB de Villiers steered their team towards a sound position on the second day of the third and final Test against the West Indies at Newlands on Saturday.South Africa were 227 for three when rain ended play half an hour early - 102 runs behind the West Indian first innings total of 329.Were in a really good position, said South African batsman Faf du Plessis, who made 68 - the highest score in the match. The base has been created for us to score some really big runs.Du Plessis said one of the strengths of South Africas batsmen was their ability to convert fifties into hundreds. Hashim and AB will do it more consistently than most batters, he said. Its a good batting wicket and a case of us getting as many runs as possible to get a good lead.On a day of largely attritional cricket, the West Indies opted for defensive fields after an initial burst of aggression with the new ball, while the South African batsmen were content to keep the scoreboard ticking over.It was a game of patience, with only one South African batsman falling victim to frustration - when Du Plessis leapt out of his crease and was stumped off left-arm spinner Suleiman Benn.I should have got a hundred or at least have been 80 or 90 not out tonight. It was a lapse of concentration, he admitted.A near-capacity crowd then saw Amla and De Villiers forge a careful unbeaten fourth wicket partnership of 70. Amla made 55 not out off 130 balls with seven fours, while De Villiers was on 32 off 52 deliveries, hitting four boundaries.Fast bowlers Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel took two wickets each as South Africa wrapped up the West Indian first innings inside the first hour.Resuming at 276 for six, the West Indies lost their remaining four wickets amid a flurry of strokes.Jerome Blackwood reached his third Test half-century with a cover drive for four off Steyn but was then trapped in front of his stumps with a full, swinging delivery after making top score of 56.Jason Holder and Jerome Taylor both went for their shots before perishing to mistimed blows. Holder top-edged a pull and was caught at mid-on and Taylor was caught at fine leg when he hooked a ball from Morkel.Benn was last man out, driving Morkel to mid-off. Steyn finished with four for 78 and Morkel two for 83.Taylor and Gabriel both built up plenty of pace at the start of the South African innings, with Gabriel recorded at over 150kmh.But they bowled some loose deliveries as they tried to unsettle the batsmen with short-pitched deliveries. Both fast bowlers conceded wides with balls that climbed over wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdins head for four extra runs. The tall Holder conceded 12 runs in his first over after replacing Gabriel but followed up with a maiden before Dean Elgar played across a full delivery and was out for eight. With the West Indies having as many as three fielders on the boundary for much of the rest of the day,Du Plessis and Alviro Petersen put on 56 for the second wicket before opening batsman Petersen was run out by a direct hit from Jermaine Blackwood at point for 42. It was a cruel blow for Petersen, whose place is under threat after a string of modest scores.Du Plessis went on to make 68 off 123 balls with eight fours before he became the only victim of Benn, who bowled an economical unbroken spell of 24 overs, taking one for 62.Holder admitted that the West Indies had not taken full advantage of winning the toss. and batting. We were probably 70 runs short, he said. It is important for us to start well (on Sunday) and get some early wickets.

Won't return to assembly until commission's establishment: Imran Khan

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Saturday has said that they would not return to the assemblies until the government and PTI does not find common terms over the matter of establishment of judicial commission. He expressed these views while talking to the media at the Heathrow Airport in London. He said that his party has shown flexibility in its stance in every phase of negotiations. Rigging in the General Elections 2013 would be proved if unbiased investigations are done of the matter. At least 26,000 votes have been proved to be fake in the constituency NA-122.If Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) establishes unbiased commission then it is acceptable to PTI. PTI chairman said that he had not announced an end to sit-in on anybody’s will and it was his own decision in the wake of Peshawar attack. PTI’s four-month sit-in has made the people of the country aware of what is actually happening in the country.Imran Khan will meet his sons during the two-day visit to London and will return to Pakistan on the eve of Monday.
