Case registered against Mian Hamid Meraj, daughter for domestic violence

LAHORE (Dunya News) – A domestic violence case was registered against former Provincial Minster’s sona and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s leader Mian Hamid Miraj and his daughter. The case was registered by Miraj’s brother in law Colonel Umer Farooq . The case was registered on the accusation that his wife was tortured and attempt on her life was made. But the Shalamar police returned with their pockets allegedly filled without arresting the accused.According to the details, Miraj’s sister Ambreen Farooq had went to visit her mother who had been sick for some time. During the visit Miraj’s married daughter Sania Abdullah also came to visit her grandmother. A war of words ensued between the aunt and her niece. Miraj entered at this point into the argument. But instead of calming the situation bother father and daughter started beating the aunt. She was then rescued by her husband Farooq.Farooq registered the domestic violence case against both the father and the daughter.Police have verified that a case has been registered but denied the incidence of bribery as baseless allegation.

Saudi Defense Minister assures safe withdrawal of Pakistanis from Yemen

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Saudi Defense Minister Prince Mohammad Bin Salman on Saturday telephonically contacted Pakistan’s Minister for Defense Khawaja Asif. The Saudi Defense Minister assured a safe withdrawal of Pakistanis stranded in Yemen. Asif had previously contacted the Saudi Minister for Defense for the safe return of Pakistanis stuck in Yemen during the crisis.The Saudi Minister said that the government of Saudi Arabia is in contact with the Embassy of Pakistan in Riyadh.The Saudi Minister assured that every possible route for the evacuation of Pakistanis will be used.

Karachi: Police search operation, dozens arrested

KARACHI (Dunya News) – A heavy contingent of police arrested more than a dozen people in wee hours of Sunday. The individuals were arrested from Malir and Sohrab Goth area of Karachi.According to the police, the search operation was conducted for suspects involved in blast that occurred in Shah Latif area.A pistol and a shotgun were confiscated during action in Sohrab Goth. The operation continued into the late hours of the night.

Threat to Saudi integrityis concern for Pakistan: Foreign Secretary

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Aizaz Ahmed Chaudary on Saturday stated that a risk to Saudi Arabia’s internal security and integrity will be a concern for Pakistan. Chaudary stated that the Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan is personally monitoring the safe return of Pakistanis from Yemen. Chaudary stated that an important delegation will depart for Saudi Arabia in the next 48 hours on the advice of the PM. Chaudary stated that the PM has contacted the Saudi King. The Foreign Secretary said that Saudi Arabia’s integrity is of great importance to Pakistan. He stated that all concerned departments are working with a systematic plan. Chaudary also informed that a crisis cell was also operating in the Embassy. He stated that every action will be taken after taking the nation into confidenceThe Foreign Secretary gave these statements while briefing the media about Yemen’s situation.According to the details, Chaudary said that an Ambassador in Yemen has informed that a group of 600 Pakistanis was on its safe return. The Foreign Secretary stated that the group encountered some problems during departure from Sanaa but it will reach Hudaydah in the next 3 and half hours.He informed that some Pakistanis were already in Hudaydah while others are in Al Mukalla. Ships will be used to transport the Pakistanis in Al Mukalla.The Foreign Secretary briefed that they had been observing the situation in Yemen for the past 2 months. Chaudary said that they had informed the Pakistani’s residing in Yemen about the deteriorating situation of the country in February.He informed that the Embassies of various countries had shifted to other cities but Pakistans embassy officials could not do so due to the presence of Pakistani residents.

Extremist groups exist due to US double standards: Sami-ul-Haq

LAHORE (Dunya news) – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-S) chief Maulana Sami-ul-Haq on Saturday stated that extremist organizations such as Taliban, Al-Qaeda, Daesh and Boko Haram are flourishing due to the United States of America’s (USA) double standards and discriminatory policies. He said the elimination of such groups is difficult because of this.The JUI-S chief stated that the only possible solution to this was if the US supports innocent people instead of aggressive nations and unjust dictators of Islamic countries. Sami-ul-Haq stated that this support has not been shown in cases of Kashmir, Palestine, Iraq, Syria and Egypt. He said that a constant struggle and conflict between western nations and Muslims is growing due to this reason.According to the released statement, the JUI-S chief expressed these views during a meeting at his residence with US International Centre for Religion and Diplomacy think tank’s leader Dr. Douglas M. Johnston.Dr Douglas paid tribute and lauded Darul Uloom Haqqania’s educational and administrative system. He also praised the research and development sector of the religious seminary. He stated that the seminary was an ideal educational institute.Dr Douglas is on a short 2 day visit to Pakistan. He met the JUI-S chief and Chancellor of Darul Uloom Haqqania Maulana Sami-ul-Haq in Akora Khattak. Matters regarding threats to international peace, US foreign policy, religious schools and educational system were discussed in detail with Sami-ul-Haq.The JUI-S chief briefed Dr Douglas about fundamental sectors of the religious seminary. He also briefed him about the high schools’ various sections, English classes, libraries and research and development sectors. Sami-ul-Haq also discussed the teaching methods and departments of specialization on Islamic law and Hadith. The honoured guest expressed his amazement on the workings of the religious seminary.Dr Douglas thanked the JUI-S chief for his time while addressing the students saying he was going back with a high regard for him. He stated that the work being done at Darul Uloom Haqqania was highly commendable.

Karachi: Target killer brought to Anti terrorism Court in auto rikshaw

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Karachi police brought suspect of target killing and extortion to courts, using auto rikshaw on Saturday. Police of Peerabad police station presented a target killing and extortion suspect Tayyab, in auto rikshaw to the Anti Terrorism Court. Tayyab belongs to a banned organization and had been declared a dangerous terrorist but using auto rikshaw to bring him for the hearing raises serious questions on the resources and condition of Karachi police.Why did police not use a bullet proof vehicle or police mobile van? Are they out of resources? Having the crime rate of Karachi in mind, and government’s promises to make the city crime-free, is it not alarming that police does not have required resources to tackle dangerous criminals?

Kalat: 4 terrorists killed, weapons found in FC search operation

KALAT: (Dunya News) – Four terrorists were killed on Saturday by Frontier Corps (FC) while 150 rockets were found in a search operation in Kalat. 150 rockets and explosives in large quantity were also found with the terrorists, Dunya News reported.According to the FC spokesperson, FC conducted a search operation in Mangocho area of Kalat. Terrorists opened fire at the FC officials during the search operation from their hideouts in tough mountainous area. FC retaliated to kill four terrorists and destroyed their hideouts.150 rockets, 1500 detonators, 500 kilograms of explosive material and other things were found from the terrorists. All this material was destroyed by the FC. Spokesperson said that the terrorists were involved in terrorist activities.

Foreign Office spokeswoman blames stranded Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam on Saturday lashed out at Pakistanis stranded in Yemen saying they were issued an advisory in February by the Pakistan Embassy asking to evacuate and they didn’t do that on time.Talking exclusively to Dunya News, Ms Aslam said that the Embassy in Yemen issued an advisory warning Pakistanis of the ongoing issues and they chose to ignore it.She said the roads and airports in Yemen are dysfunctional and the staff at the embassy is risking their own lives to help Pakistanis and yet, she said, they aren’t stopping complains.Ms Aslam told that Pakistanis will be brought back through special flights.

1-year-olds contest Fitness Competition in Lahore

LAHORE: (Daily Dunya) – Hundreds of 1-year-olds contested a fitness competition at Shalamar Hospital in Lahore on Saturday. Kids belonging to Lahore and other cities participated in the competition, Daily Dunya reported.The competition was divided into two phases. Kids aged 1 month to 6 months took part in the first phase while those aged between 6 months and 1 year were categorized in the second phase. A jury of doctors examined the kids and selected the healthiest of them.Aliyaan Fazal Shahzad secured the first position in the first phase that included kids aged between 1 month and 6 months. Muhammad Zayaan Imran stood second while Hiba Sharafat remained third in the contest.In the second phase, Ayaan Faisal stood first, Ali Hamza second and Baby of Shehbaz secured the third position.Moreover, all the kids were given gifts through draw. Chief Operating Officer Shalamar Hospital Professor Waseem Yousuf congratulated the parents of the kids winning the competition. PADS department head Professor Dr. Nadeem Hameed said that the objective behind conducting this competition was spreading information among the parents about children’s health.Singer Anwar Rafi, actress Sunehna Butt and Aamir Rafi performed on the occasion and distributed gifts among the kids.

Journalists gear up for 'biggest protest in country's history'

LAHORE (Daily Dunya) – The Council of Pakistan Press Clubs and Regional Union of Journalists held a joint meeting at Lahore Press Club on Saturday in which the arrangements for the ‘biggest protest in country’s history’ scheduled for March 31st were discussed.According to details, the session was chaired by Council of Pakistan Press Clubs’ central Convener Arshad Ansari and Regional Union of Journalists’ President Shafqat Gilani.A large number of representatives of journalists’ rights organizations and journalists participated in the event.The participants discussed arrangements regarding the protest scheduled to take place outside Punjab Assembly on March 31st.Addressing in the session, Arshad Ansari and Shafqat Gilani told that hundreds of journalists and leaders of journalists’ rights organization will participate in the event and that this protest will be the biggest in country’s history.They said the demonstrating journalists will surround the Punjab Assembly and it will continue until demands of the journalists are fulfilled.Arshad Ansari said that the Lahore Press Club will host the journalists coming from whole Punjab.

Karachi: Police found dead bodies of 3 men killed after severe torture

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Three dead bodies showing the signs of torture were discovered in Pak Colony area of Karachi on Saturday.According to police three dead bodies were discovered from Mewa Shah grave yard in Pak Colony. Bodies had sings of severe torture and had many bullets in different body parts; while their hands were tied on their backs. Police reached the area on getting informed by the people and sent bodies to the Abbasi Shaheed hospital for further investigation.SHO Irfan Asif said that the ages of the victims are around 23 to 25 years and they were killed between the night of Friday and Saturday.Police could not find anything with victims which could help the process of identification. Bodies have been sent to Edhi morgue for identification.

Patwari arrested in Lahore for taking bribe

LAHORE (Daily Dunya) – A Patwari, Amjad Ali, was apprehended by the Anti-corruption officials of Lahore region after it was established he allotted someone else’s land to a woman after taking Rs 50,000 bribe.The sources said that an investigation was launched after a local had filed a complaint against Amjad to the Anti Corruption unit.The Circular Officer Headquarter booked and arrested the Patwari after the investigation implicated him.Amjad will now stand trial against the charges.

Bomb scare: Bag containing clothes causes stampede in Karachi mall

KARACHI (Dunya News) – News of a suspicious bag caused stampede at Haroon shopping centre in Buffer Zone area of Karachi on Saturday. Police and Bomb Disposal Squad reached the market and cleared the bag.According to the details, the incident took place in Taimuria’s Buffer Zone market when a man saw a suspicious bag and considered it as an attempt of terrorism; he started shouting hysterically which created huge disturbance and terror. People started to run and many women and children fell on floor during the stampede.However, police reached the shopping centre and took the suspicious bag in its custody. Bomb Disposal Squad was then called which opened the bag. But behold The bag contained nothing but clothes.Police declared the market safe confirming that suspicious bag did not contain any bomb.There was also a rumor of a ball bomb attack on police party clearing the bag but when SHO Humayun was contacted to confirm the fact afterwards, he denied the occurance of any such attack.
