Over 100 killed in militants attack in Nigeria: senator

Posted:

KANO (AFP) - Suspected Boko Haram militants killed more than 100 people in an attack on a village in Nigeria, a local senator said on Sunday. The attackers stormed the village in Nigeria's restive northeastern Borno state on Saturday, slaughtering scores of civilians and sending many others fleeing.A hundred and six people, including an old woman, have been killed by the attackers, suspected to be Boko Haram gunmen, senator Ali Ndume told AFP.Sixty of the dead have been buried while the rest are awaiting burial, he said, adding the attacks in the area were becoming deadlier and more frequent by the day.The raid took place on Saturday in the mostly Christian village of Izghe in Borno, which has been under emergency rule since May last year in a bid to stop an Islamist rebellion that has claimed thousands of lives since 2009.A local farmer who escaped by scaling the fence of his house and crawling on his belly for 40 minutes said the attackers had gone door-to-door looking for those hiding in their houses. The attackers came around 9:30 pm (20.30 GMT) in six trucks and some motorcycles. They were dressed in military uniform, Barnabas Idi said. They asked men to assemble at a place, and began hacking and slaughtering them. There were no security forces in the town at the time of the attack, he said.

11 workers rescued out of 200 feared trapped in S.Africa mine

Posted:

JOHANNESBURG (AFP) - Eleven workers have been rescued from an illegal gold mine in South Africa where around 200 were feared trapped Sunday, in the second accident in the country's mining industry in as many weeks.Rescuers used heavy duty equipment to try to clear a way out for the men stuck in the mine near Johannesburg, emergency services said.We have rescued 11 so far, none of them have visible injuries. But they are being assessed by medics, Russel Meiring of the private emergency operators ER24 told AFP from the accident scene. It is believed there are more than 200 miners trapped inside the mine, 30 of them at a shallow level. The 30 have told us that underneath them there's 200 others, Werner Vermaak, ER24 spokesman said earlier. But he added that he could not independently confirm the figure of 200, while local municipal officials could only confirm 30 trapped. Those rescued will be arrested for illegal mining and trespassing, police said. There's still a number of them underground who are refusing to come out for fear of arrest, police spokesman Mack Mngomezulu told AFP. Municipal officials said the workers went down on Saturday into the mine, which has been dug illegally behind a cricket stadium in the Benoni district east of Johannesburg. But police suspect some of them had been underground for up 12 days. They were unable to come out after boulders fell and blocked their way, municipal rescuers said.Boulders blocking the entrance to the shaft were removed using excavation equipment, clearing the way for rescuers to pull them out.Food and water had earlier been lowered in by rope.Police on patrol nearby discovered that the men were trapped in the mine when a passer-by said he had heard voices of people screaming for help from underground.

US blames Assad regime 'obstruction' for Syria talks break

Posted:

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Secretary of State John Kerry Sunday blamed obstruction by the regime of President Bashar al-Assad for the breakdown in talks in Geneva between the sides in Syrias civil conflict.None of us are surprised that the talks have been hard, and that we are at a difficult moment, but we should all agree that the Assad regimes obstruction has made progress even tougher, Kerry said.In a statement released here, Kerry urged the regimes supporters to press for the creation of a transitional government, warning they would bear the responsibility if the regime continues with its intransigence in the talks and its brutal tactics on the ground. The peace talks broke off Saturday with no result at the end of a second round of negotiations seeking an end to the brutal three-year-old conflict. No date was set for a third round of talks and it was unclear whether any would be held, but Kerry said the United States remained committed to the Geneva process and all diplomatic efforts to find a political solution.Theres no recess in the suffering of the Syrian people, and the parties and the international community must use the recess in the Geneva talks to determine how best to use this time and its resumption to find a political solution to this horrific civil war.More than 140,000 people have died and millions have been driven from their homes since the conflict began.A monitoring group said this week more than 5,000 people had been killed since the talks began on January 22.

Olympics: New world record as US poised for ice dance gold

Posted:

SOCHI (AFP) - Two-time world champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White set a new world record score in the short dance to move closer to giving the United States a first Olympic ice dancing gold on Sunday.Davis, 27, and White, 26, skated a foxtrot and quickstep to My Fair Lady to lead reigning Olympic champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada by 2.56 points at the Iceberg Skating Palace. The Americans, the Olympic silver medallists in Vancouver in 2010, scored 78.89 points with the Canadians achieving 76.33 for their skate to Dream a Little Dream, Muskrat Ramble and Heaven. It is the latest round in an ongoing rivalry on the ice going back to junior days between the two couples who train together in Detroit with Russian coach Marina Zoueva.Excellent is a word to describe it, said Davis. I felt like I was in a dream. Everything is coming together.Moir said they were torn by the desire to hold their title but also for success for their training partners. We want that gold medal badly, but obviously we're fans of theirs as well. We know they're great skaters, we know how hard they work. I'm not going to jinx it by saying any more, we'll wait and see tomorrow.Russia's Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov scored a personal best 73.04 for their skate to Bei mir bist du schoen and Sixteen Tons, to put them third ahead of France's Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat, 72.75, going into Monday's free dance final. It's great to skate at home, said Ilinykh. You can feel the people watching you are giving you energy and that helps a lot. Pechalat said they were delighted to be in the chase for a medal. We couldn't have done better, said the skater from Normandy. There's nothing in it and we like being the hunter. Tomorrow we're going to have to go for it and chase down the Russians.Another Russian couple, Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev, are sitting fifth with 69.97.Virtue, 24, and Moir, 26, thrilled a home crowd when they took the gold at Vancouver in 2010.They are bidding to become just the second pair to win consecutive ice dancing gold after Russians Pasha Grishuk and Yevgeny Platov in 1998.Platov now coaches British couple Penny Coomes and Nicholas Buckland who are in 11th position. That's more like it, said Moir, after errors in their routine during the new team event where they won a silver with Canada a week ago. That's the strongest we've skated this season. We did what we needed to do tonight. We like our chances. Virtue added: We certainly felt more like ourselves out there tonight. We created the moment we wanted to create. I don't think we could have done it much better. Both Russian couples have already won gold in the new team event last Sunday in which the Canadians finished silver medallists and the Americans took bronze.Ice dancing is a different discipline and less athletic than pairs skating. It resembles ballroom dancing -- the dancers have to stay close together and there is less lifting and more intricate, rhythmic footwork.

Olympics: Dutch 1-2-3-4 in women's 1,500m speed skating

Posted:

SOCHI (AFP) - Dutch athlete Jorien ter Mors smashed the Olympic record to take women's 1,500m gold on Sunday as the Netherlands swept the top four places, tightening their iron grip on the speed skating competition. The Netherlands have turned Sochi's Adler Arena orange, winning 16 of 24 medals on offer and taking five golds out of eight, leaving their rivals in the shade.Ter Mors -- racing in the ninth pair -- went almost 4.5sec quicker than then race leader Olga Fatkulina of Russia, setting a mark of 1min 53.51sec that not even her Dutch rivals could match.Defending champion Ireen Wust, who has already won the 3,000m and taken silver in the 1,000m, came second, 0.58sec off the winning time while Lotte van Beek (1:54.54) took bronze. With nine pairs still to go, ter Mors -- also competing in short track in Sochi -- faced a long, anxious wait as her rivals chased down her time. When the last racers crossed the line the champion, also competing in the short track at the Sochi Games, raised her arms in triumph and could not hold back her emotions.I'm not used to these kind of situations. In short track you immediately know if you have won. Now I had to wait and it was very nerve-wracking, said the gold medallist.I never expected to win gold here, but I had a very good race. Technically it was good. I kept pace, I skated in a compact position, it was just about keeping skating. At the finish line I looked up and I was first.Marrit Leenstra finished fourth to underline the Netherlands' complete dominance.I tried to be satisfied because Jorien was just the best today, said Wust.My race was 90 percent and I needed 100 percent to win the gold, added the silver medallist, who equalled the Dutch record of six Olympic Winter Games medals held by Rintje Ritsma. It is the first time a country has taken the top four places at an Olympic Winter Games since East Germany did it in men's luge at the 1972 Games. The Netherlands' tally of 16 medals in speed skating is a new record for any country in any sport at a single Winter Games. Austria won 14 in alpine skiing in Turin in 2006.

Nishikori beats Karlovic to retain Memphis title

Posted:

MEMPHIS (AFP) - Japanese top seed Kei Nishikori won his second consecutive ATP US Indoor Championships crown on Sunday, beating big-serving Croatian Ivo Karlovic 6-4, 7-6 (7/0) in the final. It was the fourth career ATP title for the 24-year-old from Shimane, including Delray Beach in 2008, Tokyo in 2012 and last year and this year at the $647,000 Memphis tournament. It's an amazing feeling, Nishikori said. I had never defended a title before.Nishikori, ranked 16th, took the $103,100 top prize at the first ATP event where he was a top seed and collected his first victory in three career meetings with 80th-ranked Karlovic, who won $54,300.Nishikori was the first repeat champion at Memphis since Germany's Tommy Haas in 2006 and 2007. The only other was US legend Jimmy Connors.Karlovic, who fired 56 aces to reach the final without dropping a service game, failed in his bid for a sixth career ATP crown despite blasting 20 aces past Nishikori, who had eight of his own in response.Nishikori inflicted the only service break of the week against Karlovic in the third game of the first set with a backhand winner, then held twice at love and denied Karlovic's only two break points of the match in the eighth game.It took four set points in the 10th game before Nishikori claimed the opening set after 41 minutes off back-to-back netted Karlovic backhands.Karlovic saved two break points in first game of the second set and five more in the third game, denying Nishikori with his 10th, 11th and 12th aces of the match and two service winners as they battled into a tie-breaker.Nishikori overwhelmed Karlovic in the decider, opening with a forehand winner and a service winner and then watching a forehand from the Croatian sail long.Nishkori smacked two forehand service return winners for a 5-0 lead and finished matters after 90 minutes on a service winner.Karlovic, 10 years older than Nishikori at 34 and more than a foot taller at 6-foot-11 inches (2.1 meters), had won both prior matches against the Asian star, in last year's first round at Delray Beach and a 2012 Davis Cup meeting.Nishikori, coached by retired US star Michael Chang, won two singles matches to spark Japan over Canada in Davis Cup play earlier this month and reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, losing to world number one Rafael Nadal.

Football: Arsenal enjoy Cup revenge over Liverpool

Posted:

LONDON (AFP) - Arsenal knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday as they gained revenge for a humiliating loss to their Premier League title rivals.Only eight days earlier Arsenal, who now face Everton, were beaten 5-1 by Liverpool at Anfield. But Arsene Wenger's men -- who haven't won a major trophy since lifting the FA Cup in 2005 -- turned the table at the Emirates Stadium.Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gave the Gunners a 16th minute lead when he followed up after Steven Gerrard blocked Yaya Sanogo's initial shot.Oxlade-Chamberlain turned provider in the 47th minute, outpacing Daniel Agger before a pull-back for Lukas Podoslki allowed the Germany star to fire them into a 2-0 lead. But Liverpool captain Gerrard ensured a nervous finish for the London club when he scored from the penalty spot in the 59th minute after Podolski fouled Luis Suarez. And Liverpool felt they should have had a second spot-kick moments later when Oxlade-Chamberlain appeared to foul Suarez. But Howard Webb, the 2010 World Cup final referee, dismissed their appeals. The intensity of the performance pleased me, I am very proud of the way we responded to the huge defeat that we had (at Anfield) last week, Arsenal manager Wenger. But Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers bemoaned the lack of a blatant penalty, after Arsenal denied his side a Merseyside derby quarter-final with Everton. I thought the best team lost, he told BT Sport. I thought the very least we deserved was a replay. We are bitterly disappointed not to get something and not to get another penalty, which I though was a blatant penalty. It was probably more clear and blatant than the first. Now we have got one competition to focus on for the rest of the season and have to really focus on these last 12 league games.Earlier on Sunday, Everton beat Swansea 3-1 at Goodison Park.Everton manager Roberto Martinez, who won the Cup with Wigan last season, saw Lacina Traore, his loan transfer signing from Monaco in January, take just four minutes of his debut to give the Merseysiders the lead.Jonathan de Guzman drew Swansea level in the 15th before second half substitute Steven Naismith put Everton in front again -- with his fourth goal in six games -- and then won the penalty from which Leighton Baines scored to put the result beyond doubt. However, there was a worrying moment for Everton when, shortly before full-time, Naismith went off with concussion after being caught in the head by Jordi Amat. The draw hasn't been too kind in terms of playing away from home, but we will embrace it and look forward to it, Martinez told ITV Sport.Sunday's other Cup tie saw third tier Sheffield United beat second-tier Nottingham Forest 3-1.United, managed by former Forest favourite Nigel Clough, could be involved in a derby quarter-final against Sheffield Wednesday if their city rivals beat Charlton Athletic in a re-arranged match.Jamie Paterson headed Forest into an early lead before the on-loan Conor Coady drew the Blades level in the 66th minute. And Chris Porter then sparked scenes of near delirium amongst the Bramall Lane faithful with two goals right at the end of the match. He put them in front with a 90th minute penalty following Greg Halford's hand-ball and then sealed victory in stoppage-time with a finish from close range. The last eight line-up also saw FA Cup holders Wigan paired against Manchester City in a repeat of last season's final.

Football: Ronaldo-less Madrid join three-way tie at top

Posted:

MADRID (AFP) - Real Madrid made light of the absence of the suspended Cristiano Ronaldo with a 3-0 win away at Getafe to move level with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga.It took the visitors just five minutes to make the breakthrough as Jese Rodriguez curled home his fifth goal in six games from Gareth Bales pass.Karim Benzema doubled Madrids advantage as he finished off Angel di Marias fine cross before the break and Luka Modric rounded off the scoring with an effort from outside the box midway through the second-half.All three sides at the top are now tied on 60 points with 14 games still to play.Whilst Barcelona and Atletico return to Champions League action this week, Madrid have the luxury of a week off as they dont travel to Schalke for the first leg of their last 16 tie until February 26.Los Blancos are now 24 games unbeaten in all competitions and after also keeping their 11th clean sheet in 13 games in 2014, boss Carlo Ancelotti believes they are in top form at just the right time of the season. Our defensive solidity is very important. At the start of the season we had problems, but now we are more solid, playing with more confidence and look more natural in our play, he said.I hope this continues because we are in the most important part of the season. The mental and physical condition of the players is very good for the upcoming games.Ronaldos three-match suspension after being sent-off against Athletic Bilbao earlier this month has allowed Jese to get a continued run in the side and the Spaniard continued to make his case for a place in Vicente del Bosques World Cup squad with a precise finish into the far corner.Despite being involved in the build-up to the goal, Bale didnt enjoy his best afternoon as he slotted a wonderful chance wide after great work from Benzema and was shown a yellow card in the first-half.Ancelottis men were well in control, though, and made the game safe with a flowing counter-attack that ended with Di Marias cross being swept home by Benzema.Getafe started the second period the stronger as Madrid constantly gave the ball away cheaply, however the hosts couldnt take advantage of a number of half chances and were punished when Modric added to Reals lead 24 minutes from time. The Croatian midfielder has been his sides most consistent performer since the start of the year, but hadnt scored in La Liga this season until his low strike from 25 yards sneaked past Miguel Angel Moya.Defeat leaves Getafe still fighting for their lives as they remain without a league win since November and just four points above the relegation zone.

New Zealand squad for World T20

WELLINGTON (AFP) - The New Zealand squad named Sunday for the ICC World Twenty20, to be played in Bangladesh between March 16 and April 6.Jesse Ryders fall from grace continued Sunday when the big-hitting left-hander was left out of the New Zealand squad for the World Twenty20 starting next month in Bangladesh.Ryders omission comes less than a week after he was dropped from the New Zealand Test squad following a late-night drinking session that ended just hours before the start of the first Test against India.New Zealand selection boss Bruce Edgar confirmed that Ryder had been almost assured of making the World Twenty20 squad, but was ruled out because of his behaviour.Weve had to exclude him from the tour. Character is really important as part of our selection process, Edgar said. The prolific scorer Ryder has been involved in several alcohol-related incidents throughout his career, and only recently returned to the New Zealand squad after a self-imposed 22-month exile to sort out personal issues.New Zealand named a spin-friendly Twenty20 squad to take advantage of the conditions expected in Bangladesh, earning a recall for Roneel Hira and Anton Devcich as well as part-time spinner Kane Williamson, who did not feature in the Twenty20 matches against the West Indies last month.Edgar said Williamson and Devcich were both among batting options to open with Martin Guptill in Ryders absence at the World Twenty20, to be played in Bangladesh between March 16 and April 6.Squad: Brendon McCullum (captain), Corey Anderson, Trent Boult, Anton Devcich, Martin Guptill, Roneel Hira, Mitchell McClenaghan, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Colin Munro, James Neesham, Luke Ronchi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Kane Williamson.

Crowdfunding website Kickstarter hacked, recommends users change passwords

(Reuters) - Kickstarter, the fundraising platform used by millions of people to raise capital for creative projects and businesses, said on Saturday that hackers had gained access to some of its customers' data earlier this week but that the breach had been repaired. No credit card data of any kind was accessed by hackers. There is no evidence of unauthorized activity of any kind on all but two Kickstarter user accounts, Kickstarter Chief Executive Officer Yancey Strickler said in a blog post on the website. It noted that it does not store credit card data.Recent data breaches at Target Corp and Neiman Marcus have sparked concern from U.S. lawmakers and consumers over who should bear the cost of consumer losses and how to improve cybersecurity.Kickstarter's information that was accessed without authority included user names, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers and encrypted passwords, said Kickstarter, which was informed of the breach by law enforcement officials on Wednesday night. It added that while passwords were not revealed, persons with computer expertise could still decipher encrypted passwords, and recommended users change their passwords as well as those for other sites or accounts for which the users had the same password.Kickstarter said it had beefed up security in recent days. It also said it was working with law enforcement officials.Kickstarter launched in 2009 as a conduit for funding of projects ranging from films and stage shows to video games and restaurant launches. Contributors to a project's launch are often compensated with rewards, discounts, credits or other offers from the projects they help fund.Since its launch more than 100,000 projects have been funded, with hundreds of millions of dollars pledged.

Two priests stabbed to death in Venezuela

CARACAS, (AFP) - Two Catholic priests were stabbed to death and a third wounded by assailants who broke into a school residence in Venezuela during an apparent robbery, the school said Sunday.A school spokesman said the assailants climbed a wall to enter the Don Bosco school in the central city of Valencia late Saturday, and entered an area where the priests rooms were located. They killed them with knives taken from the school kitchen, said Nelson Pena, a seminarian and spokesman for the school.Interior and Justice Minister Miguel Rodriguez told reporters the murders occurred under very strange circumstances. It would appear that two minors were involved. There was no forced entry and that school is difficult to get into, he said.Pena identified the dead priests as Jesus Plaza, a 79-year-old Colombian and Luis Sanchez, an 84-year-old Venezuelan. The schools director David Martin who was wounded, underwent surgery, while another school administrator was lightly injured, he said. The crime comes amid rising violence in Venezuela, which has one of the worlds highest murder rates.

US murder suspect claims at least 22 victims: report

Posted:

WASHINGTON (AFP) - A woman arrested in Pennsylvania for murder claims she has killed more than 20 people in several US states, a newspaper that interviewed her reported on Sunday.Nineteen-year-old Miranda Barbour told the Daily Item newspaper in Sunbury, Pennsylvania that she fatally stabbed her most recent victim, a 42-year old man, in November. She said she agreed to sex for $100 with her victim, whom she met through an ad on Craigslist, then killed him with the help of her husband.I remember everything, Barbour told the newspaper. It is like watching a movie.Barbour and her husband, Elytte Barbour, have been charged with the mans murder and are being held in separate detention facilities. But she said it was just the most recent of a string of murders she had committed over the years, from Alaska to Texas.Asked by the newspaper how many slayings she might have been responsible for, she answered that she stopped counting at 22 victims, and that the number could be much higher. The young womans statement reportedly has sent law enforcement officials across the United States scrambling to review unsolved murders in their states for potential links.Barbour said she was introduced to murder at 13, after suffering sexual abuse as a child, by a man who had been a member of a Satanic cult in Alaska.I would lure these people in, she said.I studied them. I learned them and even became their friend. I did this to people who did bad things and didnt deserve to be here anymore. The police chief of Sunbury, Steve Mazzeo said authorities are aware of her claims and are working with law enforcement from various cities and towns.

Tennis: Berdych breaks dry spell with Rotterdam title

Posted:

ROTTERDAM (AFP) - Tomas Berdych buried a title drought lasting nearly a year and a half as he defeated Marin Cilic 6-4, 6-2 on Sunday to win the Rotterdam World Tennis. The Czech third seed, ranked seventh in the world, handed Croatias unseeded Cilic his first loss after nine straight wins which took him to the Zagreb title a week ago.It was the ninth career title for the new champion, off to his best season start with a 12-2 record.Berdych had not earned an ATP trophy since Stockholm, October, 2012, 16 months ago.He suffered through 2013 as the only player in the top 10 not to win a title, losing finals in Marseille, Dubai and Bangkok. This is a nice trophy to bring home, said the winner.Marin played a good match and has had a great two weeks. but there can only be one winner.... He did beat two guys in the top 10 (Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Andy Murray).I thought of the final as just another match. You need to approach every match the same, every single time. Thats the way I try to do. I made a game plan and went for it.Everyone wants to win titles, but the best way to do that is to play solid and consistent over our long 10-month season.Even if I had not won in so long, I feel it is better to play well every week rather then take a title and then let your level drop. The victory in 75 minutes lifted Berdych to 5-2 over the 37th-ranked Cilic, a former top ten player who served a ban last year over a technical anti-doping infraction.Berdych is the first Czech to win the Rotterdam honours since his Davis Cup teammate Radek Stepanek eight years ago.Berdych overcame early bad luck, missing on two Hawk-Eye electronic challenges and replaying a point after a ball went dead.Berdych stayed on top of his game with a break of Cilic for 2-1, taking the first set in 45 minutes. The seed seized control with a break to start the second set as a Cilic backhand flew long. A fourth double-fault from Cilic handed over another break for 5-2, with Berdych finishing off the contest a game later on his first match point.Berdych lifted the title after losing serve only once this week, in the quarter-final against Jerzy Janowicz. He is due to play Marseille next week followed by Dubai.

Olympics: Snowboard cross racers stretched off after crashes

Posted:

ROSA KHUTOR (AFP) - Two competitors in the womens Olympic snowboard cross event at the Sochi Games were stretchered off after crashing badly in Sunday mornings seeding races.Medal hopeful Helene Olafsen from Norway -- the first snowboarder on the course -- was taken to hospital with a knee injury. The other casualty in the seeding run -- where riders compete alone against the clock for a better seeding for the afternoon quarter-finals -- was American Jacqueline Hernandez.Later on Sunday, two skiers needed treatment after crashing on the aerials and halfpipe slopes during training.Swiss aerials competitor Christopher Lambert suffered a suspected dislocated elbow while Britains Rowan Cheshire was stretchered off the halfpipe after being knocked unconscious. Many athletes have described the cross course as fast, forcing them to control their speed on certain sections rather than just go hell for leather all the way down.It was the second time in three days Olafsen, who finished third at last years world championships and fourth at the 2010 Vancouver Games, had crashed. She was also carried off on a stretcher on Friday after cutting her forehead in a fall.Shes being taken to the local hospital with a knee injury and she will not compete, a Norwegian team spokesman said.Hernandez appeared to hit her head after falling awkwardly and was also stretchered off, although she was conscious at that point. She was also unable to take part in the second seeding run for the event, won by Eva Samkova of the Czech Republic. The end of the snowboard cross course uses part of the slopestyle piste, which was heavily criticised earlier in the Games after a series of crashes. However, the snowboard cross crashes happened further up the course before it merges onto the slopestyle track.By the time the freestyle skiers took to the slopestyle course, a few days after the snowboarders, many were describing it as perfect.Lambert, whose older brother Thomas also qualified for the Sochi aerials competition, crashed heavily on his right arm during training. He was treated by medical staff on the course before being taken to hospital, meaning he is almost certain to miss Mondays competition.Cheshire fell heavily on her face and was unconscious for several minutes before being stretchered off the pipe and taken to a nearby medical tent. Her event is not until Friday but there is no indication yet whether she will be able to recover in time.Previously, during snowboard training on the slopestyle course, another Norwegian, medal hope Torstein Horgmo, broke his collarbone in a fall while in the womens freestyle skiing training American Heidi Kloser broke her thighbone and tore her cruciate knee ligament after crashing.Russian freestyle skier Maria Komissarova, who fractured her spine in the worst accident of the Winter Olympics, has been flown to the German city of Munich for further treatment, her federation announced on Sunday.
