NAB confiscates passports of seven pharma company owners

KARACHI (Dunya news) – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday has started a crackdown against pharmaceutical companies which inflated the prices of medicines. The Bureau confiscated the passports of owners of 7 different pharma companies involved in the rising prices of drugs.NAB officials have stated that pharmaceutical companies have snatched around Rs. 1.80 billion from the pockets of citizens due to the escalating drug prices.The action for confiscation of passports of the company owners was ordered by Sindh High Court on the request of NAB’s Deputy Prosecutor.

Medicines in shortage as escalating prices affect supply

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Citizens suffer further frustration with a medicine shortage hitting the city Thursday as escalating prices of drugs affected their supply as well. Citizens are distressed by the dearth of medicines for fever, pyrexia, stomach aches, cough, diabetes and other conditions.According to wholesale medicine dealers, pharmaceutical companies have cut back the supply of drugs with the rise in prices due to which citizens are facing a severe distress.Dealers have further stated that a 70% escalation in drug prices was sheer injustice with the poor citizens of the nation. They stated that government should take immediate measures for the reduction in prices so people can get some relief from the problem.

Imran Khan demands release of Fix it campaign head Alamgir

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Thursday has joined in the demand for the release of “Fix it” campaign head Alamgir’s release along with others including PTI leader Imran Ismael. Meanwhile Inspector-General (IG) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali expressed his displeasure over the incident and suspended 3 police officers. IG Sindh has also ordered an investigation as to how Alamgir had managed the Chief Minister House.Alamgir Khan, founder of campaign called “Fix it” was thrown in the lock-up earlier on Thursday. “Fix it” campaign was started in Karachi by Alamgir in an attempt to force politicians to clean the city and cover open manholes and sewers.According to details, Alamgir apparently took a truck full of garbage to the Chief Minister (CM) House, where his arrival was already anticipated by police. Hence, on his arrival to the building police rushed in action as the garbage started falling on the street. He was immediately taken into custody by the police.A case has been registered against Alamgir Civil Lines police station by the government while he has been locked behind bars and his truck also confiscated.The master of “Fix it” seemed distressed behind the bars, saying the police manhandled him and also thrashed the driver, however he seems determined to continue his campaign.People and supporters of Alamgir gathered outside Civil Lines Police Station and protested against his arrest. Meanwhile, PTI leader Imran Ismail reached the police station and threatened that PTI would protest if Alamgir was not freed soon.It is of yet not clear why Sindh government has a problem with the “Fix it” campaign.Reacting to Alamgir s arrest, his father said that his son had no connections with any political party and was only serving his city.

Kasur: Two notorious dacoits killed during police clash

KASUR (Dunya News) – Two notorious dacoits were killed late Thrusday night during a clash with the police in Alabad area of Kasur. The exterminated robbers had been involved in more than 71 cases of crime.Police arrived at the scene as the dacoits were busy in looting citizens. Two suspects were shot dead during the exchange of fire while two others managed to escape.The killed suspects have been identified as Jabbar alias Jabbari and Zakir.Dead bodies of the felons have been shifted to the DHQ hospital for post mortem.

Multan: Law enforcement agencies arrest terrorist, recover 2 grenades

MULTAN (Dunya News) – Law enforcement agencies on Thursday arrested a terrorist and recovered 2 hand grenades from the suspect during a clash near Peeran Ghayab road. Bomb Disposal Squad arrived at the scene and defused the recovered grenades.The incident occurred when the security forces raided the area on a secret tip off.Law enforcement agencies have now shifted the terrorist to an unknown location for interrogation.

Karachi: Wanted Lashkar-e-Jhangvi terrorist arrested after police clash

KARACHI (Dunya News) – A highly wanted terrorist was arrested by the police on Thursday after a clash with the suspect in Rizwia area of Karachi. The apprehended felon belongs to the outlawed organization Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. Police Constable Amin was injured during the exchange of fire while a Kalashnikov was recovered from the terrorist.According to the details, suspect opened fire on the police during the raid. Terrorist Muhammad Danish was arrested after the clash.The terrorist’s name is also included in the Most Wanted list of the Red Book.On the other hand, two dacoits were busy in looting citizens in Kalakot area of Lyari. Police arrived at the scene of crime and conducted action against the robbers. Both culprits, Sunny and Adnan, were arrested in injured condition along with their stolen items and ammunition.

Karachi: Prime suspect of Arshad Pappu murder case arrested

KARACHI (Dunya News) – A prime suspect in the murder case of Karachi’s notorious gangster Arshad Pappu, was arrested Thursday from PIB Colony of Karachi during a raid by law enforcement agencies. The key accused, former police Inspector Chand Khan Niazi, had been hiding in Mianwali for a long time and had recently arrived in Karachi where he was apprehended.Two other accomplices of the accused, Yousaf Baloch and Javed Baloch are already in jail. Suspect Niazi, along with his partners in crime, had abducted Pappu from Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in Karachi in March 2013.The felons worked for Lyari gangwar leader Uzair Baloch and had taken Rs. 30 million from Baloch for handing over Pappu to him.Pappu was brutally murdered by Baloch and his associates. He had earlier been acquitted in murder case of Faiz Muhammad alias Mama Faizu who was the father of Uzair Baloch.

Civil, military leadership on same page against terrorism: Fazal

QUETTA (Dunya News) – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal’s (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman on Thursday stated that the civil and military leadership of the country was on the same page against terrorism. Speaking on the Women’s Protection Bill, the JUI-F chief provided his interesting feedback on the development, stating that an amendment for calling wife as the husband and husband as the wife should be made in the Bill.Talking to the media in Quetta on the merger of JUI-F and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Nazriati (JUI-N), Fazal stated that Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif had satisfied their reservations on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and all political parties of the country were now united on the topic.He stated that Operation Zarb-e-Azb had now entered its final phase and both the civil and military leadership had a united stance against terrorism.Fazal further stated that JUI-F wants to see peace in the country; however the abolishment or restricting the Madarassas (religious schools) was not a positive step.Meanwhile political analysts have stated that the integration of the two religious parties will further strengthen JUI’s position in the coming elections and it will emerge as a strong political party in the Province due to this merger.

Karachi: PM to lay foundation stone of Green Line Rapid Bus project

KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif will lay the foundation stone of Green Line Rapid Bus project in Karachi on Friday. The project will cost Rs 16 billion and will take one year to complete, reported Dunya News.According to PM House spokesperson, Nawaz Sharif will lay the foundation stone of the project tomorrow. The 17 kilometers long project will take Rs 16 billion. The spokesperson said that Green Line Rapid Transit system will be the first of its kind in Pakistan and the funds will be provided by the federal government.The spokesperson further said that Green Line Rapid Bus project will prove to be a milestone in the transportation system and will provide transportation facilities to the citizens of Karachi. Meanwhile the project will also help share the pressure on the transportation system in Karachi. He added that the project will start from Sarjani Town and end at Municipal Park at MA Jinnah Road. He told that 300,000 people will benefit from the project daily.

Action plan for human rights ready: Pervaiz Rashid

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid has on Thursday said that the action plan for the human rights has been prepared. Special Advisor to Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, Barrister Zafarullah, said that the laws concerning civil and criminal cases are being reconsidered, reported Dunya News.Holding a press conference in Islamabad, the federal ministers said that the action plan for human rights had been readied and the laws concerning human rights were being reformed. Government released a fund of Rs 100 million for providing free legal support to the needy. Federal Minister Zahid Hamid told that the legislation process for the rights of children, women minorities and disabled persons was being initiated.The ministers told that the topics of human rights were being introduced to the curricula of schools and colleges. “Media policy is also being set up in this regard. Rs 25 million have been released for Institute of Human Rights”, they said.Barrister Zafarullah told that the civil and criminal laws were being reconsidered in order to expedite the judicial process. “Had there been no sit-ins in the D Chowk, the government would have completed most of the reforms by now”, said Pervaiz Rashid.

Govt amending law now as NAB operating in Punjab: Khurshid Shah

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Opposition Leader in National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah has on Thursday said that the government decided to amend the law when National Accountability Bureau (NAB) decided to start operation in Punjab. He said that nobody would have cared had NAB continued its operation in Sindh only, reported Dunya News.Addressing Hameed Nizami Day ceremony, Opposition Leader said that NAB has made a mistake by confronting the ‘clean’ people of Punjab. He added that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has been advising to terminate NAB as an institution since 2008.Khurshid Shah said that strong opposition guarantees strong democracy. “A weak parliament would give birth only to a weak democracy”, he said. “Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif takes some time to understand things. PPP had suggested forming a parliamentary commission against corruption to replace NAB in 2008. When the same NAB was acting in the smaller provinces, the government was fine but it has suddenly turned into a villain when it has started taking action in Punjab too”, he said.“The people of Punjab are ‘holy cows’. Only the people of smaller provinces are corrupt”, said Shah. He added that learning our lesson from the past was a must. He added that Rangers were also considered angles when they were acting in Punjab, but they are suddenly being targeted now as they had pointed at the nurseries of the terrorists in Punjab.Opposition Leader said that PPP had no problems with Metro or Orange Line train but this money could have been better utilised if spent on larger schools and hospitals.Addressing the ceremony, Punjab government spokesperson Zaeem Qadri said that the opposition in all civilised societies should be friendly on issues of national interest and everything should be worked upon in collaboration.

All resources to be utilised for coping with any threat: Army chief

RAWALPINDI: (Dunya News) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has on Thursday said that all resources will be utilised in order to cope with any threat posed to the country. He added that excellent training and operational readiness during the time of peace guarantee for permanent peace, reported Dunya News.According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) department, General Raheel Sharif inspected the training exercises of the Pakistan army near Fort Abbas and Beema Garh. These exercises are being conducted under the new war strategy and are being attended by infantry, mechanical teams, aviation and air force.Army chief expressed complete confidence in the operational preparations and the training exercises. He said that all resources will be utilised for coping with any kind of threat because operational readiness and training guarantee permanent peace.

Federal govt to pay outstanding 70 bn rupees to KP within four years

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) governments have on Thursday resolved all their outstanding issues including that of the electricity royalty issue. The federal government has also agreed to pay the outstanding electricity royalty worth Rs. 70 billion to KP within next four years, reported Dunya News.According to details, federal government will pay the outstanding amount of Rs. 70 billion to KP government within next four years and the first installment of Rs. 25 billion will be paid this year. The remaining amount will be paid in three installments of Rs. 15 billion each during over a period of four years. KP government also secured the right to provide gas for power projects.The official declaration states that CPPA will decide the formula of payment and the agreement of electricity purchase by March 31.Federal government will provide 100 MMCFD gas to KP for power projects while the provincial government will be responsible for the distribution.It has also been agreed that the feasibility of Chashma Right Bank Uplift Canal project will be prepared jointly by federal and provincial governments. Federal government will pay 65% of the amount for the project while the remaining 35% will be paid by KP government.

Punjab govt forms JIT for Pathankot incident

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Punjab government has on Thursday established the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate Pathankot incident, reported Dunya News.The JIT formed by Punjab government to investigate the terror attack in Indian airbase of Pathankot comprises of five people and it will be headed by Police AIG Rai Tahir. The other members will be Intelligence Bureau (IB) Lahore Deputy Director Muhammad Azeem Arshad, Lt. Col. Tanvir Ahmad and Lt. Col. Irfan Mirza from an intelligence agency, and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Inspector Shahid Tanvir.The JIT will investigate the Pathankot incident in view of the FIR registered in Gujranwala. The same committee will also investigate the Pathankot incident in collaboration with the Indian officials.

Sindh Assembly: Shehla Raza, Khawaja Izhar clash, Irum Azeem scolded

KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Sindh Assembly Deputy Speaker Syeda Shehla Raza on Thursday continued to clash with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) members throughout the session. While MQM member Irum Azeem Farooqui was scolded by Shehla Raza, Irum’s colleague Khawaja Izhar ul-Hassan offered Shehla Raza to take tuitions from him, reported Dunya News.Sindh Assembly session proved to be as explosive as ever. As Khawaja Izhar ul-Hassan tried to move the adjournment motion regarding illegal appointments in Education department after the Question-Answer session, it was opposed by the treasury benches. When Shehla Raza tried to reject the motion, Izhar ul-Hassan said that the deputy speaker knew nothing about the rules. Shehla Raza got livid over the remark by Izhar ul-Hassan.As the clash between Khawaja Izhar and the deputy speaker came to an end, Education Minister Nisar Khuhro presented Karachi Institute of Technology Bill. Irum Farooqui tried to talk on the bill but was denied the chance and started talking out of turn, upon which Shehla Raza scolded her.MQM workers were livid with Shehla Raza over her attitude and started raising ‘Go Shehla Go’ slogans. Amid this noise in the assembly, the session was adjourned till 3 PM on Friday afternoon.
