The boxer and his wife of four years recently had an acrimonious split and although she recently announced she is pregnant with her husband’s baby, Amir says he is going ahead with a divorce.Speaking in a new Snapchat video, he said: “So me and Faryal are not together. I have filed for a divorce. I hear that she has just announced that she is pregnant. She didn’t tell me. I had to read it on social media. I’m always going to be there for my kids [if] we’re not married. We’re not together but my kids are everything to me.”“I don’t know if it’s true that she is pregnant or not, time will tell, but in the meantime I’m there for Lamaisah. She’s everything to me. If there is another kid then I am going to be there to show my support and be there for Faryal, but we both think it’s not healthy to be together. It’s not healthy for the kids. Football: Mbappe nets debut strike as PSG thrash Metz

Posted:

PARIS (AFP) - Kylian Mbappe scored on his debut as Paris Saint-Germain eased to a 5-1 away thumping of 10-man Metz in Ligue 1 on Friday.Neymars pin-point through ball created the opening goal for Edinson Cavani in the 31st minute, only for Emmanuel Riviere to head in an equaliser before half-time.But the game was all but ended in the space of three second-half minutes, as Benoit Assou-Ekotto saw red for a lunge on Mbappe, before the youngster netted his debut strike.PSG ran riot late on, with Neymar getting himself onto the scoresheet, Cavani stabbing in his second and Lucas Moura grabbing the fifth. The victory is PSGs fifth in a row to start the Ligue 1 season, and takes them three points clear at the top of the fledgling table, ahead of champions Monaco, who play Nice on Saturday. Its important for me to have good balance on the pitch, said PSG coach Unai Emery.I think that the good players like to play with good players, and Kylian (Mbappe) made a good start.PSG can now turn their attentions to the start of the Champions League group stages on Tuesday when they take on Celtic in Glasgow.Mbappe was handed a starting spot on his debut after joining from Monaco on a season-long loan, with an option to buy for a fee that could reach 180 million euros ($216.5m).A win, a goal and a good game, I have everything to make me satisfied, said Mbappe. Now we go to Glasgow to win and to make a good start (in Europe). Ive always said that the Champions League is a special competition. The away side took the lead thanks to a moment of class from world-record signing Neymar. The Brazilian threaded through a perfect pass with the outside of his foot for Mbappe and Cavani to run onto, with the latter rounding Metz goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima and slotting in his sixth league goal of the season.Mbappe, 18, continued to show his unselfish side with a wonderful cross for an unmarked Cavani, who was denied by a fantastic Kawashima save.Metz delivered a sucker-punch eight minutes before the interval, as Mathieu Dossevis determination down the right-hand side created space for a cross that gave Riviere the simplest of tasks to nod in.It was the former Monaco strikers first Metz goal since ending his torrid spell at Newcastle United in the close season.Paris were desperately lucky not to fall behind soon after the restart, as PSG keeper Alphonse Areolas dreadful blunder handed Riviere a golden opportunity, but he somehow contrived to scoop it over the bar.The capital-city giants were struggling early in the second half, until Assou-Ekottos sending off changed the game. The Cameroonian left-back was shown a straight red card for a strong tackle on Mbappe, despite taking the ball before making contact with the player.Unperturbed, Mbappe picked himself up and duly put PSG back in front with his first goal of the campaign. His lofted pass was only half-cleared back to the worlds second-most expensive player, and he rifled home a clinical volley from the edge of the area.Neymar followed suit, as he collected the ball unchallenged outside the box and casually curled into the far corner of Kawashimas net.And Cavani prodded in a trademark effort from close range to complete a brace with 15 minutes to play, before a ricochet gave substitute Lucas a goal on his first appearance of the season.Elsewhere on Friday, Marcelo Bielsas Lille were reduced to 10 men and held to a 0-0 draw at home by unbeaten Bordeaux.

Tennis: Injury-hit pals Stephens, Keys battle for US Open crown

Posted:

NEW YORK (AFP) - Americans Madison Keys and Sloane Stephens, devoted friends who battled through major injuries this year, meet Saturday in the biggest tennis match of their lives for the US Open title. The Grand Slam crown both have dreamed about since their earliest days swinging a racquet will go to one of them at Arthur Ashe Stadium along with a $3.7 million top prize in the Slam debut final for each.It feels absolutely amazing. These are the moments growing up that you dream about, 15th seed Keys said.Ive known Sloane for a long time, and shes a close friend of mine, so to be able to play her in both of our first finals is a really special moment, especially with everything weve gone through this year.Stephens says it will be tougher trying to defeat a friend for the trophy she yearns to lift.Ive known her for a long time. Shes probably one of my closest friends on tour. Love her to death, Stephens said. Its obviously going to be tough. Its not easy playing a friend.Keys says the friendship will be set aside for the match like their bags of extra racquets and picked up once the contest has concluded. You figure out how to separate your friendship from being on the court, and obviously both of us want to win, Keys said. When we come off the court, were able to leave what happens there and still have a great friendship off of the court.I definitely never envisioned it happening this way, but I couldnt think of a better person to have this first experience with.Stephens, 24, spent 11 months recovering from left foot surgery, returning in July at Wimbledon. The world number 83, up from 957 in July has won 14 of her past 16 matches, reaching the semi-finals at US Open tuneups in Toronto and Cincinnati.I was on a walking boot a month before I played Wimbledon, Stephens said. I knew I was going to have to play my way into shape and Ive done that pretty well. I got a lot of matches in. Ive run a lot. Ive played a couple of three-setters.My movement is probably what has kept me in some of these matches, shockingly.Keys, 22, underwent her second left wrist surgery in 10 months after the French Open and won a July tuneup title at Stanford, but never dreamed she could win the US Open.I really was just going match by match, just wanted to have some good ones, Keys said. Being away from the game and just remembering why I love competing, it helped me tremendously. It helped me not put so much pressure on myself.Stephens beat Keys in the second round at Miami in 2015 in their only career meeting.Maddie is a great player. Shes a power player, Stephens said. She plays a lot of first-ball tennis, first-strike tennis. She plays aggressive. I dont do that. I use my wheels more and make sure I get a lot of balls back and make the other person play.Keys sees the match playing out much the same way.I know shes going to get a lot of balls back and shes going to reset the point over and over again, Keys said.Im just going to have to be patient and not go for too much too soon and just try to keep building points until I finally have the right ball.Shes probably more comfortable defending and not going for bigger shots before me, but were very similar in a lot of ways. That includes quickly finding top form after injury setbacks.More than anything, it just shows we can be put into any situation and, no matter what, were going to come back and do really big things, Keys said.

Football: Zidane favours transfer window closing before season start

Posted:

0MADRID (AFP) - Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane added his voice Friday to the growing clamour for the summer transfer window to close before the season starts across Europe.English Premier League clubs voted on Thursday to shut the 2018 close-season transfer window before the start of the 2018-19 campaign following complaints by managers that transfer activity disturbs their preparations. The transfer window in Europes other major leagues runs until August 31, meaning clubs outside England could buy players from English top-flight teams after the new Premier League deadline.I think the same thing as most people do, said Zidane. The transfer window must stop when the league restarts. When official competition restarts, it must stop, thats clear.Zidane added: We cant change our team during competition, thats what I think and thats the opinion of most people in world football.UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has also given his support to making the close-season player trading period, introduced by world governing body FIFA in 2002, shorter.Turning to matters even more political, Zidane said he could not imagine a La Liga without Barcelona in reference to another attempt by Catalonia to wrest free of Madrid.Catalan leaders have slated an independence referendum for October 1, something Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has branded an intolerable act of disobedience.Spanish sporting authorities have often warned that Barca and other Catalan clubs would be excluded from national competition should there be secession in Catalonia.I dont know whats going to happen exactly, Zidane said. There some people for, some against, its a complicated debate. I hope that it wont happen, I dont want it.

Anderson eyes McGrath tally after joining 500 club

Posted:

LONDON (AFP) - James Anderson said he hoped to get somewhere near Australia great Glenn McGraths tally after joining Test crickets 500-wicket club at Lords on Friday.Anderson became the first England bowler to the landmark and just the sixth in history when, having started the West Indies second innings with 499 Test wickets behind him, he clean bowled opener Kraigg Brathwaite. The 35-year-old Lancashire swing king was just the third paceman to take 500 Test wickets behind McGrath (563 Test wickets) and West Indies great Courtney Walsh (519).Anderson is the only active cricketer in the 500 club, with the spin trio of Sri Lankas Muttiah Muralitharan (800 Test wickets), Australias Shane Warne (708) and Indias Anil Kumble (619), in common with McGrath and Walsh, all retired.Im just trying to stay fit and stay on the field, Anderson, set to be Englands spearhead during their upcoming Ashes defence in Australia, told Sky Sports after stumps.Im loving playing cricket at the moment. I just want to keep playing as long as possible, he added. If I keep on playing for the next couple of years I might get somewhere near (McGraths tally). After dismissing Brathwaite, Anderson produced a near unplayable delivery to bowl Kieran Powell for 45, the ball spearing into the left-hander only to cut away and clip the top of off stump.West Indies were 93 for three -- just 22 runs ahead -- come the second days close, with England pressing for a series-clinching win in a three-Test contest currently level at 1-1.Anderson, as so often in his 129-Test career, led Englands attack with stumps figures of two for 17 in nine overs. But having been kept waiting for the landmark achievement since going wicketless in the second innings of West Indies series-levelling win at Headingley, Anderson said his main emotion at breaking the 500 barrier was one of relief. Its a bit surreal, the Lancashire paceman said. Im more relieved to get to get it out of the way, to be honest.Anderson, who took his first Test wicket on debut against Zimbabwe at Lords in 2003, added: Its such a special place for me -- to get my first wicket and 500th here will live with me a long time. But Andersons England career has not been one smooth upward curve. He had to wait to become established at Test level, missing Englands 2005 Ashes triumph after being unable to force his way into the fab four pace attack of Matthew Hoggard, Stephen Harmison, Andrew Flintoff and Simon Jones.Relegated to the role of net bowler with England, he suffered a stress fracture in 2006.But having forced his way back in, his England career blossomed. There were some dark times, recalled Anderson.I got injured, left out of the side. It just made me more determined to improve.I knew I had some skills. I used to be able to bowl fast I just tried to develop that and get back out there.Nasser Hussain, the swing stars first England captain who witnessed Andersons 500th Test wicket live at Lords in his current role as a Sky commentator, paid tribute to an incredible talent. He was a boy from nowhere, said Hussain. He came in after another disaster of an Ashes tour and he was like a breath of fresh air.He was so different from anything Id seen before, the former Essex batsman added.I didnt know him then and I dont really know him now, to be honest but hes an incredible talent. What we see is the end product. What we dont see is what we dont see -- those years when he had to put out the cones in 2004/05 for that bowling attack, the injuries hes had and all the pain hes gone through. He wont tell you much about it because he never does but hes been a credit to his country.

Anderson joins 500 club as England press for Windies series win

Posted:

LONDON (AFP) - James Anderson became the first England bowler to take 500 Test wickets as the hosts pushed for a series-clinching win against the West Indies at Lords on Friday. In a three-match contest all square at 1-1, West Indies ended the second day of the third Test on 93 for three in their second innings -- a lead of just 22 runs.Anderson had stumps figures of two for 17 in nine overs.Shai Hope, West Indies batting star this series, was 35 not out and Roston Chase three not out. After Ben Stokes (60) and Stuart Broad (38) had given England a valuable first-innings lead of 71, it was Anderson who fittingly made the breakthrough.Starting West Indies second innings on 499 Test wickets, it took the 35-year-old just 12 deliveries to become only the sixth bowler and third paceman with 500 when he bowled Kraigg Brathwaite for four with a superb inswinger.Anderson, arms outstretched in celebration, ran down the pitch before being engulfed by his joyful team-mates.As a capacity crowd at Lords rose to give Anderson a standing ovation, he acknowledged their applause by showing them the ball with which he had made history.Anderson, in his 129th match at this level, had seen his Test career come full circle after making is debut at Lords against Zimbabwe in 2003 -- a match where he took five wickets in his first innings.Brathwaites wicket meant Anderson was the only active cricketer in a 500 club containing the spin trio of Sri Lankas Muttiah Muralitharan (800 Test wickets), Australias Shane Warne (708), Indias Anil Kumble (619).He was the third paceman to the milestone, with Australias Glenn McGrath (563) and West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh (519), in common with their other 500 club stars, having long since retired.West Indies were now six for one and that became 21 for two when Kyle Hope, Shais older brother, saw his miserable series end when he was lbw to Broad for one.Stokes was on a hat-trick after taking two wickets in two balls at the end of the tourists first innings.Kieran Powell, dropped on two, denied him that prize. But there was nothing Powell, who made a fine 45, could do when Anderson, from around the wicket, produced an unplayable delivery that speared in towards the left-handers stumps only move away late off a full length and clip the off bail.West Indies were now 69 for three -- still two runs behind and with plenty of overs left in an extended third session under the floodlights after rain earlier in the day.Shai Hope, whose twin hundreds -- his first in Test cricket -- had done so much to secure a series-levelling win at Headingley -- again showed his class when he cover-drove Stokes for four after making a stylish 29 in difficult, overcast conditions during West Indies first innings 123.England, finished on 194 all out after resuming on their overnight 46 for four.Stokes, fresh from his Test-best bowling figures of six for 22 on Thursday, top-scored in a 74 ball-innings featuring 10 fours.Kemar Roach took five for 72, with West Indies captain and fellow seamer Jason Holder following up with four for 54.But it might have been a very different story when, just two balls into the second session Stokes, on 24, edged Shannon Gabriel only for Brathwaite to drop a tough chance as he dived far to his left at second slip.Brathwaite had to go for the catch as there was no third slip.Next ball saw Holder reinforce his slip cordon but, as if to underline the error, Stokes celebrated his reprieve by driving Gabriel down the ground for four.West Indies then negated the swing on offer in overcast conditions by bowling too short to tailender Broad, who carved Roach for two sixes before he was last man out.

2016 elections: Hillary blames Obama, others in new book

Posted:

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Hillary Clinton takes responsibility for her devastating loss to Donald Trump in her tell-all book about the 2016 presidential race, but she also blames Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, Vladimir Putin and others, published excerpts show.In her campaign chronicle What Happened, set for release on September 12, the veteran Democrat acknowledges her own role in her defeat, writing: It was my campaign. Those were my decisions. But she also points the finger at a long list of political rivals, apparent allies, and morning television hosts, and signals that much of what happened in 2016 was outside her control.Sanders, a socialist-leaning senator who challenged her during the Democratic primaries, resorted to innuendo and impugning on my character in attacks that caused lasting damage and disunity, the 69-year-old Clinton wrote, according to excerpts reported by US media on Thursday and Friday.Regardless of how progressive her own policy proposals were, Bernie would come out with something even bigger, loftier and leftier, regardless of whether it was realistic or not, she added.Sanders offered a terse response. I.e., Bernie Sanders just stole all of Hillary Clintons ideas. Does anybody really believe that? he said on MSNBC.Clinton also trained her frustrations on Obama, who backed her as his successor, saying a stronger, televised response by the then-president to Russian meddling in the election might have helped her.Maybe more Americans would have woken up to the threat in time. Well never know, she said according to CNN, which obtained a copy of the book.Clinton also criticized former vice president Joe Biden, who campaigned with her, and former FBI director James Comey. She blamed a frustrated electorate for falling for Trump instead of embracing her more traditional campaign, writing that the billionaire businessman ran a reality TV show that expertly and relentlessly stoked Americans anger and resentment.Women voters apparently were also partly to blame.Clinton wrote that while she was impressed with the massive anti-Trump demonstrations in the days after his January inauguration, I couldnt help but ask where those feelings of solidarity, outrage and passion had been during the election.Putin -- and Russias apparent meddling in the 2016 election -- also took hits, with Clinton accusing the Russian president of holding a personal vendetta against her, according to Vanity Fair.I never imagined that he would have the audacity to launch a massive covert attack against our own democracy, right under our noses -- and that hed get away with it.Perhaps in a page out of Trumps own playbook, Clinton took a shot at the media as well, in particular the NBC Today host Matt Lauer. His constant focus on Clintons emails during a forum last September made her almost physically sick.Lauer had turned what should have been a serious discussion into a pointless ambush, she wrote. What a waste of time.Clinton has scheduled a 15-city tour promoting her book, beginning in Washington on September 18.
