University of Swat bans girls, boys from mingling together

LAHORE (Dunya News) – University of Swat Friday issued a notification banning its male and students from mingling together. In a controversial move, the University has stated that students of both genders are not allowed to sit or walk together, inside and outside the campus of the institute.According to the issued statement, the penalty for violation of these rules will range from a fine of Rs. 50 to Rs. 5000. Furthermore, the University may even call the parents of the concerned students for an emergency meeting.The notification has been signed by the Chief Proctor of the institute, Hazrat Bilal.The ban is not the first of its kind, with similar restrictions imposed previously in various educational institutes of the country, even some very prestigious ones.With the country’s already shaky educational system, especially in the rural areas, the impact of such a move is not seen by many as productive.It is pertinent to mention here that education in Swat has survived even through some of its toughest times. Pakistan’s Nobel laureate and female education activist Malala Yousafzai also hails from Swat and has been a vocal supporter of education in the region.

Iran, Saudi discuss hajj safety after stampede

TEHRAN (AFP) - An Iranian delegation has held talks in Saudi Arabia about the safety of pilgrims after a deadly stampede at last years hajj, an official said on Friday.It is the first dialogue between the rival powers since a diplomatic crisis erupted in January.The head of the Iranian Hajj Organisation, Said Ohadi, told Iranian state television that discussions over the pilgrims welfare began on Thursday in Mecca.We asked that... the safety of Iranian pilgrims be ensured and that pilgrims travel to Saudi Arabia only on Iranian aircraft, Ohadi was quoted as saying.Iran and Saudi Arabia stand on opposing sides in conflicts in Syria and Yemen.The death of more than 2,000 foreign pilgrims, including 464 Iranians, in the stampede at last years hajj in Saudi Arabia also caused a major spike in tensions.Riyadh severed diplomatic ties with Iran in January after its diplomatic missions in Tehran and Mashhad were stormed and set alight by mobs following the kingdoms execution of a prominent Shiite cleric.This years annual hajj, a pilgrimage to the Saudi city of Mecca that all Muslims are expected to perform at least once in their lifetime, is due to take place in September.So far, the Riyadh government has taken no action to compensate the families of Iranian victims, according to Ohadi.

Will not accept anything except commission headed by CJ: Imran Khan

LONDON (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan Friday has stated that the party will not accept anything except for a commission headed by Chief Justice to probe into the Panama Leaks issue.Addressing a fund raising ceremony in London, Khan stated that Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and his family have to declare their assets.He inquired as to why Nawaz Sharif formed an offshore company while serving as the PM of the country. He questioned that if PM Nawaz has not evaded taxes then why were the assets not on his name. Further commenting on the issue, Khan added that the PM’s children were 18-19 at the time then how did they acquire the finances.Khan further stated that PM Nawaz had not provided a clarification of the allegations himself even once, adding that meanwhile the courtiers of the government were busy in blackmailing and hurling counter-accusations against other political leaders including leader of the Oppostion and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Khursheed Shah.After the ceremony, Khan, during a talk with the media, stated that he had only discussed the upcoming PTI rally with Federal Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar in a meeting during his flight.Khan further stated that the meeting with opposition leaders was a one-point agenda, adding that only a commission under Chief Justice will be accepted.Khan also stated that PTI will defeat the supporters of status-quo in the elections of Azad Kashmir.Meanwhile former PM Azad Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood and PTI leader Jehangir Tareen also addressed the fund raising ceremony.

Australia draft in Hick to help on Windies tour

SYDNEY (AFP) - Former England batsman Graeme Hick and ex-Tasmania fast bowler Adam Griffith were Friday drafted in to help Australia during their upcoming tour of the West Indies.Hick will act as assistant coach to Justin Langer, who will be in charge for the series while Darren Lehmann has a break, while Griffith replaces Craig McDermott who has stepped down.Head coach Lehmann said both would be a great help to Langer, the former Australia opener and now highly regarded coach of Western Australia.Hick has worked with Australias National Cricket Centre for the past three years, focusing on young players coming through the academy, while Griffith is the WA bowling coach.West Australia have some talented young fast-bowlers that have developed under Adams watch and its great to be able to offer him the chance to work with the Australian side under Justin Langer, said Lehmann.Australia begin the tri-series, which also features South Africa, in Guyana on June 6.The round-robin tournament sees teams play three matches against each opponent, with the top two advancing to the final on June 26 in Barbados.

Govt, opposition contacts political leaders over Panama Leaks issue

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Panama Leaks fiasco still continues as both the government and the opposition kept up the series of meetings, discussion and consultations over the issue.Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was also seen Friday strengthening its contacts with other political parties over Panama Leaks issue. PTI senior leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi met with Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) leader Aftab Sherpao and said that nothing will be demanded against provisions of the constitution. Sherpao has also demanded to form an empowered commission headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan.Qureshi also held a meeting with Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) head Raja Nasir Abbas and apprised him with PTI’s stance on Panama Leaks.Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) formed a 4-member committee which will start meeting other party members from Monday to form a Parliamentary committee on Panama Leaks. PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira has stated that PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has neither met nor held any telephonic contact with Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif. He stated that a final decision on the issue will be given after consultation with parties of the opposition. He added that PPP was ready to talk with the government but it will not back down from its stance.Meanwhile Federal Minister Abdul Qadir Baloch met with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr. Farooq Sattar. Both discussed the investigation being conducted in regards to the Panama Leaks.Baloch sought suggestions from Sattar that should be adopted regarding Panama Leaks investigation to which the MQM leader has advised an unbiased investigation against all those named in the Panama Papers.On the other hand, Federal Minister of Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique on Friday stated that 5 judges have backed out of the investigation in regards to the Panama Leaks because of the abusive tone used by PTI chairman Imran Khan.He added that an independent inquiry commission needs to be formed that probes into the Panama Leaks. He said that the consent of all political parties is being sought in this regards.

Karakoram Highway reopened for light traffic: ISPR

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Karakoram Highway on Friday has been reopened for light traffic. The highway was affected at 159 different locations as a result of land sliding, reported Dunya News.Pakistan Army continues playing its effective role to facilitate the people affected in the flooded areas of Gilgit-Baltistan. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) department, 43 wheat-laden trucks will be provided to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) has reconstructed a 350-metre long road at Dasu whereas 100 metre area of Canal bridge has also been reconstructed.

Mayo Hospital: Nurses protest over unfair behavior by YDA President

PM approves financial aid package for victims of land sliding

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minsiter (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s spokesperson stated on Friday that the PM has approved the financial aid package for the victims of land sliding in the northern areas of the country, reported Dunya News.According to sources, those individuals whose houses have been completely destroyed as a result of land sliding will be given Rs 5 lakhs as aid whereas those individuals whose houses have been partially damaged will be given Rs 2.5 lakhs.PM Nawaz also stated that he will soon visit the areas affected by land sliding and will also be meeting the locals.

Waqar Younis criticises PCB's decision to hire interim coach

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistani cricket team’s former coach Waqar Younis has criticised Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to hire a temporary coach for the team, reported Dunya News.Waqar tweeted that the idea to introduce a temporary coach in the side is unwise. He added that the authorities need to revisit their decision as there is ample time before the tour of England kicks-off. ECP removes details of Parliamentarians' assets from its website

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Details regarding the assets of the Parliamentarians in regards to the fiscal years 2013-14 available on the website of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) were removed all of a sudden on Friday, reported Dunya News.According to sources, the decision to remove the details regarding the assets of the Parliamentarians was made after the institution was pressurised a great deal after the onset of the Panama Leaks. The details of the assets of the Parliamentarians regarding the fiscal year 2015 will not be uploaded on the website.Dunya News contacted ECP spokesperson Surraya Jamal to get further information in this regards however she expressed her unawareness about the removal of the important details from the official website of ECP.

PPP forms 5-membered organising committee for Punjab

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) spokesperson Farhatullah Babr stated on Friday that party’s co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has formed the party’s 5-membered organising committee for Punjab, reported Dunya News.He stated that the committee comprises of former Prime Minister (PM) Raja Pervez Ashraf, Rana Farooq Ahmad Khan, Nadeem Afzal Chan, Chaudhary Manzoor and Nadeem Kaira.Farhatullah Babar stated that the organising committee has been given a time period of 3 months for the restructuring of the party in Punjab.Earlier, an organising committee was formed on similar basis for Sindh.

In a message on social media, he said that leaders are resigning from their designations to save democracy.Spain’s PM has also resigned but PM Nawaz is unable to realise sensitivity of the situation, he added.

Either ban MQM or give clean chit over connections with RAW: Mustafa Kamal

MIRPUR KHAS (Dunya News) – Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) leader Mustafa Kamal on Friday stated that if there is even 5 percent truth in the allegations placed in Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in regards to its connections with the Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) then it should be banned, reported Dunya News.While addressing a press conference in Mirpur Khas, Kamal said that in the light of the recent allegations, MQM should either be banned or its members should be arrested after a ban is placed on the party.Kamal again alleged the MQM chief and Nadeem Nusrat of being involved in large-scale killings through their “teams” adding that “Muttahida is once again making its teams”. He said that PSP has taken the initiative to prevent youngsters from converting into RAW agents or target-killers.Kamal said that those linked with RAW are an obstacle in our philosophy.

Doctors to re-examine PMs health, consultation underway to admit him in hospital

LONDON (Dunya News) – Doctors in a private hospital of London have re-examined Prime Minister (PM)’s health after receiving medical reports on Friday, reported Dunya News.However, consultation to admit PM in hospital is under discussion. PM has also been briefed in this regard. Blood and cardiac tests were also conducted on Thursday while the reports are still awaited.The PM departed for London after feeling pain in his arm, after which doctors had detected abnormal heart-beat and cardiac problem after various tests.
