Layyah toxic sweets: Death toll reaches 28

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The death toll from poisonous sweets consumed in Layyah has reached 28 as one more child died in the Jinnah Hospital, Lahore on early Thusday morning.The 12-year-old Sanwal was shifted to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital in critical condition.On the other hand, a seven-member inquiry team formed to probe the incident has reached Layyah. The team was briefed by the district administration at the DCO office. Members of the inquiry team also visited the District Hospital Layyah.

Lahore: Minor girl killed after falling into nullah

LAHORE (Dunya News) – According to details, two and a half year old girl Noor Fatima went missing around 6:00pm on Wednesday from Malik Park near Band Road. The residents doubted that the girl fell into nullah and called Rescue 1122. The rescue team reached the spot but refused to start search for the missing girl on the pretext that Rescue 1122 don’t launch operation on speculation.However, the residents acquired a crane and recovered the dead body of the girl after hectic effort of nine hours.

ICIJ terms 'The News' story baseless

LAHORE (Dunya News) - International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) Journalists – a global union which exposed ownership of offshore companies by publishing Panama Papers – has termed ‘The News’ story baseless and said that ICIJ offered no apology for wrongly naming PM Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers.Irish journalist Gerard Ryle has explained in his email that ICIJ did not offer apology as PM Nawaz name appeared in Panama Papers. He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s name was included in the news stories based on Panama Papers due to editing mistake.ICIJ has removed the Prime Minister’s name from the Panama Papers and has further clarified that PM Nawaz does not operate any offshore companies and that his name in the Panama Papers was added as the result of an editing mistake on the basis of which it appeared on the website.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Daniyal Aziz has decided to move court against International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) for wrongly naming Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s in the Panama Papers, Dunya News reported.Daniyal Aziz said that Nawaz Sharif was targeted in the Panama Papers by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).The new twist in the Panama Papers issue came when the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists – a global union which exposed ownership of offshore companies by publishing Panama Papers – clarified that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s name was mistakenly appeared in Panama Papers due to editing error.“Nawaz Sharif’s name doesn’t appear in original documents of Panama Papers, however a sentence included in Panama Papers story implied as if Pakistani Prime Minister directly controls the offshore companies,” a statement read.

Australia's Hastings out of Windies tour

SYDNEY (AFP) - Australian fast bowler John Hastings was Wednesday ruled out of the upcoming one-day tri-series tour of the West Indies with an ankle injury and will be replaced by Scott Boland.Hastings, 30, hurt his ankle during the Indian Premier League and returned home for scans which revealed he needed surgery to remove bone spurs.John had this surgery over the weekend and now requires a period of rest to resolve the bone stress and recover from surgery before he will resume bowling, said Cricket Australia medical official Alex Kountouris.Boland joins a pace attack that also features Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Coulter-Nile.Australia begin the tri-series in Guyana on June 6 against South Africa before facing the hosts four days later at the same venue.The round-robin tournament sees teams play three matches against each opponent, with the top two advancing to the final on June 26 in Barbados.

Taylor replaces Malinga in Mumbai Indians IPL team

NEW DELHI (AFP) - West Indies fast bowler Jerome Taylor on Wednesday signed for the Mumbai Indians, replacing Lasith Malinga who was ruled out of this seasons Indian Premier League (IPL) with a knee injury.The 31-year-old Taylor will join the Ricky Ponting-coached side for the rest of the Twenty20 tournament after the required paperwork was completed, Indias cricket board said in a statement. The Jamaican played just one match for the West Indies, in the group stages, during the World Twenty20 earlier this month when the Caribbean side clinched the title for the second time, defeating England in the final.Taylor has played in previous IPL editions, representing the Kings XI Punjab and the former Pune Warriors franchises.Sri Lankan veteran Malinga returned to Colombo after the first three IPL matches without having played in the tournament to recover from the lingering injury that also kept him out of the World T20 held in India.

Apple shares plunged in opening trade

NEW YORK, April 27, 2016 (AFP) - Apple shares plunged in opening trade Wednesday following disappointing earnings, sending US markets into the red.Apple, the worlds largest company by market value, sank 7.2 after reporting its first-ever drop in iPhone sales in earnings released late Tuesday afternoon. Profits also fell in the fiscal second quarter, while revenues suffered their first quarterly drop since 2003.The weak Apple results were most detrimental to the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index, which was down 0.6 percent to 4,860.96 five minutes into trade.The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.1 percent at 17,971.76, while the broad-based S&P 500 was down less than 0.1 of a point at 2,090.99.The market is also focused on the Fed, which will release its policy statement at 1800 GMT. While analysts expect the US central bank to keep interest rates unchanged, the statement will be scrutinized for signals about potential rate hikes in June or later in 2016.

Pakistan, UK agree to enhance cooperation at every level

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister of the Interior Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday met with United Kingdom National Security Advisor Mark Lyall Grant at 10 Downing Street. Both had discussion in regards to mutual interests, peace and stability in the region and increased cooperation, reported Dunya News.Nisar praised UK government’s determination to keep supporting Pakistan in the many challenges the country faces. While addressing the media, he said that there is notable decrease in terrorist activities in the country as a result of the efforts of the Pakistani government adding that terrorism in the country in the previous year was at its lowest level as compared to that occurring in the past 9 years.Nisar stated that fourteen thousand intelligence based operations were carried out in the country on the basis of the National Action Plan adding that the ultimate challenge now would be to uproot the aides and facilitators of the terrorists who are causing a divide in the society by spreading hatred.He said that Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif made multiple attempts to restore friendly ties with India however certain events occurring in the past have deteriorated the relations between both countries.Interior Minister stated that Pakistan will continue its earnest efforts to restore peace and stability in Afghanistan for the betterment of the region adding that Afghanistan must stop blaming Pakistan over every unfortunate happening occurring within its boundaries.Mark Lyall Grant ensured Nisar of utmost cooperation from the UK government in Pakistan’s battle against terrorism.

MQM allegedly involved in human trafficking

LONDON (Web Desk) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is accused to be involved in human trafficking as sources have indicated that the political party is believed to be using Nazeer Shaheed University in Karachi for such purposes, reported Dunya News.Nazeer Shaheed University was affiliated with four other universities in the United Kingdom. Students and staff of the university could travel to the UK for training purposes as a result of these affiliations.Sources state that around 700 individuals were called by the MQM in the UK through fake documents. A significant portion of these individuals were involved in various crimes. Many of these people moved to various countries of Europe and sought political asylum there.The sponsor letter of Sun charity along with fake documents issued through the very organisation was used in regards to human trafficking by MQM as the party was able to earn millions of pounds through the procedure.

India demands consular access to Kulbhushan Yadav

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In a meeting held between the two Foreign Secretaries of the two countries, India demanded that Pakistan grants it consular access to Kulbhushan Yadav, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) spy who was apprehended in Balochistan, reported Dunya News.Pakistani Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhary met with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar on Tuesday in New Delhi and had discussion in regards to a number of issues. Indian authorities accepted Yadav as an Indian citizen and demanded consular access to the spy. The matter remained the center of discussion during the meeting. He added that Pakistan is optimistic for meaningful dialogue with India.Chaudhary admitted that the talks were crucial however he added that India did not provide any final dates in regards to the negotiations taking place between the two countries.He added that the Kashmir issue along with Pakistan’s access to the culprits of the Samjhota Express incident were other matters that were discussed in the meeting.

4 operatives of Lyari gang war, 1 BLA suspect arrested in Lasbela

LASBELA (Dunya News) – District Police Officer (DPO) Lasbella Basheer Ahmad Barohi while addressing a press conference at Hyatt Police station in Hub stated that 4 operatives of Lyari gang war named Mansoor son of Bahadur Shah, Rasool Baksh son of Daad Mohammad, Muslim son of Mohammad Ramzan and Dost Ali son of Sher Dil have been apprehended in the Rasheedabad area of Hub, reported Dunya News.The detainees work for the commander of the Arshad Pappu group namely Ghaffar Zikri, according to the police authorities. 5 hand grenades, 2 Kalashnikovs, a pistol and large number of gun magazines were recovered from the culprits.Barohi stated that the perpetrators came to Hub after the Karachi operation was initiated and that they were involved in various crimes in the area as well.

PPP's Sathi Ishaq joins MQM

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sathi Ishaq on Wednesday joined Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). He was given a warm welcome as he reached MQM headquarters Nine-zero to make the announcement, reported Dunya News.While addressing the media, MQM Rabita committee’s Senior deputy convener Amir Khan stated that “rotten eggs” are leaving the party and those having good fame are joining MQM. Referring towards Pak Sarzameen Party’s (PSP) public meeting held on Sunday, he added that the rally in Karachi organised by ‘conscience-sellers’ ended up fruitless as the people rejected them.Khan said that ever since the lot of conscience-sellers supported by the establishment and occult powers surfaced, there has been an increase in the apprehension of the party’s workers and leaders. He added that despite all the allegations and propaganda against MQM, the people still voted for the party in the local bodies elections and the by-elections.Sathi Ishaq, who remained affiliated with PPP for 35 years, made his announcement of joining MQM during the press conference.
