KARACHI Dunya News) – One person was killed while two others were taken into custody after encounter with police in Pirabad area of Orangi Town on Sunday.Police also recovered body of a dead man from near the Liaquatabad Graveyard. The identity of the deceased is not yet known.On the other hand, police conducted an operation in Gulberg area and arrested two street criminal.

Blaze gutted furniture showroom in Lahore

LAHORE (Dunya News) - According to details, fire broke out at a furniture showroom situated in Sabzazar area of Lahore on Sunday which engulfed the entire building very quickly.Fire brigade and Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot and brought the fire under control after an effort of one hour. According to Rescue team, the fire was caused by short circuit.No loss of life was reported in the incident. However, valuables worth millions of rupees were destroyed in the fire.

COLOMBO (AFP) - Sri Lanka have turned to old warhorse Lasith Malinga to put fight into their Champions Trophy campaign and reverse their decline in the one-day game.The islanders have missed Malinga -- one of the worlds great fast bowlers -- through injury and their performances have suffered.Sri Lanka won a series against Zimbabwe and West Indies last year but were beaten in one-day contests on tours of England and South Africa in 2016-17 season.So selectors have turned to Malinga and brought back fit-again all-rounder Angelo Mathews to lead the side for the 50-over tournament starting June 1.Malinga, 33, was a surprise choice considering he has played hardly any international cricket in the past 18 months.He has won the Indian Premier League title with the Mumbai Indians however. Malinga was the only player excused from the high altitude training camp for Sri Lankas England-bound players because of the IPL campaign.His fitness is improving and we are hoping that he will be able to deliver the full quota of 10 overs (a match) in England, said Sri Lanka Cricket president Thilanga Sumathipala.Sri Lanka have also made Allan Donald fast bowling coach for the tournament after bringing back Graham Ford for a second coaching stint with the team since early 2016.Donald said he has high hopes for the pace attack of Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep, Nuwan Kulasekera, Thisara Perera and Malinga.The Sri Lankan attack has what it takes to win the tournament, said Donald, the first South African to 300 Test wickets.Sri Lanka has a lot of skills. A lot of leadership with the ball ... what is there to be scared of?Ford has played down the teams chances in the eight-nation event however, calling them the tournament underdogs.Sometimes that is a good place to be. Government ready to mediate in Australia pay row

SYDNEY (AFP) - Sports Minister Greg Hunt said Sunday the federal government was prepared to provide mediation between Cricket Australia and players over the pay-dispute stalemate.CA chairman David Peever has turned down the Australian Cricketers Associations request for independent mediation and there are fears the stand-off could potentially lead to a players boycott of the showpiece Ashes series later in the year.Hunt said the government was hesitant about being too interventionist in contract disputes in professional sport.But he said there was scope to act as a mediator if the dispute looked likely to threaten the home Ashes series.If it got to a last-minute situation, I suspect that we would offer to provide good officers brokering between the parties, but theres six months between now and the Ashes, Hunt told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.It would be unthinkable that in the end we wouldnt have a full team.I do not see either the players or the administration returning to the late 1970s where we had a second-rate team.The players love playing for Australia, Cricket Australia knows this is not just fundamental to sport, it is part of our national identity. South African batsman Levi taken to hospital

LONDON (AFP) - South African batsman Richard Levi has been taken to hospital after being hit on the head batting for his English county side Northamptonshire in their Second Division match with Worcestershire on Sunday.The 29-year-old -- who played 13 Twenty20 cricket matches for South Africa with a top score of 117 not out -- took a blow to his helmet from Josh Tongue.Levi on his way to hospital in ambulance, tweeted Worcestershire after he had received treatment in the middle of the pitch and the umpires opted to take an early lunch.

Not keen on playing Pakistan right now, says BCB chief

DHAKA: (Web Desk) – Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Nazmul Hassan has stated that his team wasn’t very keen on playing against Pakistan at the moment. He said that BCB was not in talks with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ever since the announcement by the latter that Pakistan wouldn’t tour Bangladesh this year.According to ESPNcricinfo, BCB chief said that Bangladesh wasn’t in talks for a series with Pakistan after the Champions Trophy. He said that Bangladesh’s Under-19 team might have toured Pakistan but after PCB calling off the series in Bangladesh, even that wasn’t on the cards anymore.Nazmul Hassan said that ‘when they made this announcement [of postponing the Bangladesh tour] we are no longer in talks. After this, there is no question of talking about the HP tour’.Hassan added that Bangladesh had four or five teams lined up to play against Bangladesh after Champions Trophy. From Champions Trophy they’ll come home, play against Australia and then head off to South Africa. From there, they will come home and start with the BPL, and then they have more cricket,” he was quoted to have said.
