2 terrorists killed in a CTD operation in Karachi

KARACHI (Dunya News) – 2 terrorists were killed in an operation by Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Manghopir, Karachi on Saturday. Incharge CTD told that heavy arms have been recovered from terrorists.He also said that other companions of terrorists are hiding in different parts of the city, as authorities are looking for them. According to CTD officials, these terrorists were involved in different activities in Karachi.

President Mamnoon Hussain calls national assembly session on 31 May

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The national assembly session has been postponed for the third time, as 2016-2017 budget is expected to be presented in that session.The spokesperson of President Mamnoon Hussain intimated that session has been called at 5 PM on 31 May. But the session could be postponed without any activity on day 1, due to death of MNA Iqbal Mehdi.President’s spokesperson also told that President will address on 1 June whereas senate session has been called on 2 June.

Real Madrid win Champions League title 11th time

Real Madrid have won the Champions League title for the 11th time in Milan, as they defeated Atletico Madrid 5-3 on penalties. The match was tied at 1-1 after regular and extra time.In a re-match of 2014 final, Atletico were looking for a revenge. Real got the lead in the 15th minute, through Sergio Ramos, who had also scored in the 2014 final. Atletico equalised in the 78th minute as Yannick Carrasco scored.The match went into extra-time as it was tied at 1-1 after the regulation time. Both teams failed to score in extra-time and it had to be decided by penalties.Real Madrid converted all five penalties, including the decisive one from Cristiano Ronaldo. Juanfran missed the only penalty for Atletico which costed Atletico the match and Champions League trophy for the second time in three years.

We will go to public if TORs did not solve issue: Imran Khan

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has said that all political parties have to join hands for the movement against government, which is why PTI has delayed the Intra-party elections. He said that everyone has to protest against government, or else they will be exposed like Maulana Fazlur Rehman, as he was talking to media in Peshawar on Saturday.Imran Khan also said that KP police is fighting against Taliban, who are enemies of United States (US). He said that PM Nawaz Sharif and his companions have damaged Punjab police so much that they cannot even fight Chotu Gang.Khan also added that Panama leaks is not Pakistan’s issue alone. He said that statements of Nawaz Sharif’s family are contradictory. He added that all political parties are against Nawaz Sharif, except Fazlur Rehman, who has a habit of accompanying rulers. He said that if TORs did not solve the issue, they will go to public’s court.

SUKKUR (Dunya News) – Opposition Leader Khurshid Shah has said that the opposition will write to Supreme Court after finalising TORs, as he was doing a press conference in Sukkur on Saturday. He said that Chief Justice would make commission after forming TORs together. Shah told that the country could not suffer anymore.Shah praised chief justice and also said that the committee of government and opposition had to be empowered. He added that corruption had entered the blood of people and everyone would have to declare their assets to get rid of corruption.Shah said that all the detail of his assets was available on the website and he had never claimed a medical bill. He said that an MNA’s salary was Rs 37,000, which had to be increased. He said that they were not enemies and everything should not be politicized. He added that other than Panama issue, people had billions of loans written off, those should also be investigated.Shah said that Pakistan needed a foreign minister because two advisors of foreign minister made things complicated. He also added that it appeared that India, Iran and Afghanistan were going to have the biggest union of the century. He prayed for PM Nawaz Sharif’s health and also revealed that every judge of Supreme Court had 3000 cases each. He said that the economy of the country was not in a good state and investments had gone down by 8%. Shah also said that he would fight for the rights of people if budget made them suffer.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shehbaz Sharif has stated that the nation is aware that those who are making noise on the matter of offshore companies are themselves godfathers of such companies, adding that the ones being targeted through all the political stunts have presented themselves for accountability, reported Dunya News on Saturday.While addressing a ceremony based on Youm-e-Takbir held at Aiwan-e-Iqbal in Lahore, Hamza lambasted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan by stating that Khan always makes complains about corruption or irregularities however various developmental projects that are worth billions of rupees are ongoing in the country but no one has ever raised questions regarding their transparency.Hamza stated that Imran Khan should look at the people standing next to him before criticising others. He mocked him by saying that Khan is unable to control rats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa whereas he has embarked to challenge the lions.The event was attended by various leaders of PML-N along with a large number of public.

Proposal made to increase Parliament's expenses by Rs 800 mn in budget

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Sources indicate that the proposal to increase the Parliaments expenses by Rs 800-900 million has been made in the federal budget for fiscal year 2016-17 along with other advices including increment in the salaries of the Parliamentarians and an increase in the budgets of the offices of the Speaker and that of the Opposition leader, reported Dunya News on Saturday.Sources state that an increase of Rs 600 million has been suggested in the budget of the National Assembly (NA) whereas that of the Senate is believed to be increased by Rs 270 million. Furthermore, an increase of Rs 1 billion and 250 million have been suggested for the funds of the salaries of the Members of National Assembly (MNA) whereas Rs 340 million have been reserved for increment in the salaries of the Senators.It has also been reported that an increase of Rs 400 million has been suggested for the funds of the Speaker’s office. Likewise, the Deputy speaker’s office is also expected a raise of Rs 7 million in its funds whereas the Opposition leader’s office shall be given an additional Rs 100.5 million raise in its funds.An extra Rs 600 million have been reserved for the Kashmir committee, led by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Taxes worth Rs 150 bn expected to be imposed through upcoming budget

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Sources indicate that the federal government is planning to impose taxes worth more than Rs 150 billion upon the public through the upcoming budget of fiscal year 2016-17. Mini-budget presented on December 1, 2015, shall also be merged into the federal budget for the next year, reported Dunya News on Saturday.The Rs 40 billion worth taxes that were part of last years mini-budget have also been added in the upcoming budget along with additional taxes which are around Rs 26 billion, resulting in increase in the prices of basic items, including soap, toothpaste, make-up products, cellular phones and eatables.Furthermore, custom duty shall be increased on imported milk, butter, dry milk, imported chicken, fish, tin fruits, olive oil etc. The prices of warm jackets, coats, shoes and bags shall also escalate as a result of the increase in the taxes. Additional excise duty will have to paid on cigarettes as well.

2 arrested for facilitating Wali in getting NIC

QUETTA (Dunya News) – Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday apprehended a Levies official from Quetta who facilitated Muhammad Wali in getting a National Identification Card (NIC), reported Dunya News.The detained culprit, named Uzair Ahmad, was appointed in the Levies as a Risaldar major. He verified Muhammad Walis identification card form in 2001.National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) official who facilitated Walis second wife and children in getting Pakistani citizenship has been arrested from Karachi. The perpetrator, named Riffat Iqbal, was appointed in NADRA Karachi and he disappeared immediately after the US drone strike in Nushki.

PM to preside over important meetings on Monday via video link

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif shall be presiding over the meetings of the National Economic Council (NEC) and the cabinet, that have been called on Monday to discuss the approval of the federal budget of the next fiscal year, through a video link, reported Dunya News on Saturday.Various important decisions were made in the consultation meetings held on Saturday which were led by Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. It was decided that the meetings of the cabinet and the NEC should be called on Monday and shall be led by PM Nawaz via video link.According to a representative of the Prime Minister, PM Nawaz will visit the Pakistani High Commission in the United Kingdom on Monday from where he shall address the meetings and will give approval of the federal budget of the next fiscal year.Sources indicate that it was decided that Ishaq Dar shall look after important matters in the absence of PM Nawaz Sharif. It was also decided that the Prime Minister shall be kept informed of the situation within the country.PM Nawaz will undergo an open-heart surgery in the UK on Tuesday. Doctors have advised him bed rest for two weeks after the surgery.

Karachi: Three arrested for being involved in attacks on Rangers' posts

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh Rangers on Saturday arrested three workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movements (MQM) militant wing who were involved in carrying out cracker attacks on Rangers posts in Karachi, reported Dunya News.A raid was conducted on Shah Faisal Colony number 4 based on intelligence reports as a result of which the three perpetrators were arrested. The detained individuals are named Syed Ahsan alias SP, Abdullah Siddiqui alias pagal and Asadullah Siddiqui.Rangers spokesperson stated that the culprits targeted Rangers posts on March 18 at Korangi crossing and one at Korangi dhai number on March 23, respectively, by carrying out cracker attacks that resulted in three Rangers’ personnel getting injured.The detained individuals have confessed that a group of 6 members was formed to carry out the attacks whereas the names of the other three members are Rehan alias kana, Zeeshan alias tissue and Suleiman.The purpose of these attacks, as explained by the apprehended culprits, was to avenge the arrests of target killers that were made during the Karachi Operation. Rangers have obtained a remand of 90 days after presenting the three members of MQMs militant wing before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).

Shemale Association objects on politicians' silence over transgender activist's death

LAHORE (Dunya News) – All Pakistan Shemale Association leader Neeli Rana has stated that Naya Pakistan (New Pakistan) is being made in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) by murdering members of her community, further adding that it is not a crime to be a transgender, reported Dunya News on Saturday.While addressing a press conference in Lahore along with representatives of a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Neeli Rana said that a human life in Peshawar was lost merely on the basis of gender difference.She stated that the committee formed to probe into the murder of the very transgender in Peshawar needs to give strict punishment to the ones responsible for the tragic incident. Rana inquired that why the politicians in the country are silent over the murder of 45 transgender people in various areas.Human rights activist Hina Jillani stated that the indifferent attitude expressed in Peshawar cannot be explained in words, further stating that the entire country is saddened over the incident.

Economic growth target for next year expected to be set at 5.7pc

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sources indicate that the economic growth for the upcoming year is expected to be set at 5.7% whereas the target for the agricultural development for 2016-17 is believed to be set at 3.5%, reported Dunya News on Saturday.The government may provide easy loans at lesser interest rates to farmers in order to make improvements in the agricultural sector along with making announcements related to other concessions, according to sources.Inflation rate is being restricted at 6 percent whereas investment rate shall be made 17.7% of the gross production of the country. Progress rate in the services sector will be set at 5.7%.Sources also state that the difference between recoveries and foreign payments shall not be made to exceed over $4.50 billion whereas deficit in foreign payments is expected to be restricted at 1.5%.
