Over 700 infected by dengue, KP govt refuses medical help from Punjab

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Over 700 have been affected by Dengue which broke out in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), however, KP government refused to take any medical assistance from Punjab which took control of the disease some years ago.Advisor to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Amir Muqam slammed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman saying people are dying due to the epidemic while Imran Khan and his ministers are on a trip. “KP CM Pervez Khattak and Health Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai don’t have any time to visit hospitals,” he said while announcing that the federal government will give Rs 2 lac each to kin of each victim who died.Despite the refusal from KP government, the team of guest physicians from Punjab has established medical camp in Tahkal. The infected people include children and young people. Public announcements from mosques were made to draw out people from their homes.A large number of infected persons reached the medical camp to receive treatment. Punjab Punjab Primary and Secondary Health (PPSH) Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir and Amir Muqam are also present in the camp which was put in former MPA Atif-ur-Rehman’s area.Talking about the issue, Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb said she is disappointed at the behaviour of PTI-led KP government. “Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif offer for help against dengue wasn’t based on political reasons. It was an indication of human sympathy as even enemy’s help to safe lives could be accepted,” she said.She accused Imran Khan of creating a distance between people of the two provinces, adding that he is bringing his ego in the matter.

At least 23 dead, dozens hurt as train derails in India

NEW DELHI (AFP) - At least 23 people were killed and dozens injured after an express train derailed in north India Saturday, officials said, as rescuers clambered across mangled carriages to pull passengers from the wreckage.Emergency workers and crowds of local people rushed to the site where 14 coaches derailed near Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh state, some 130 kilometres (80 miles) from New Delhi, the latest deadly disaster on the countrys creaking rail network.Twenty-three people have died and 64 others are injured in the accident. Rescue and relief operations are continuing, G S Priyadarshi, Muzaffarnagar district magistrate, told AFP.A police officer at the accident spot said 50 people had been taken to hospital.Photographs and television footage showed twisted and upended coaches lying sideways as hundreds of people try to pull the passengers out.We are trying to take out the trapped people from the coaches, senior police officer Jitender Kumar told AFP.Another official said metal cutters and cranes were being used to reach inside the damaged coaches as the federal government rushed dozens of rescuers with specialised equipment and sniffer dogs to the spot.Scores of people have been safely evacuated from the coaches. Some dead bodies have also been recovered, fire and emergency officer Naresh Kumar told AFP.The train had left eastern Puri city on Thursday evening and was scheduled to arrive in northern Hindu holy city of Haridwar on Sunday.The accident is the latest disaster to hit Indias most populous state. It comes just a week after dozens of children died at a hospital that had run out of oxygen there.Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet expressed sympathies with the families of those killed and assured all possible assistance.Indias railway network is still the main form of long-distance travel in the vast country, but it is poorly funded and deadly accidents often occur.Less than a year ago 146 people died in a similar disaster in Uttar Pradesh after 14 carriages of a passenger train came off the tracks.More than 2,000 passengers were on the train when it flipped off the rails that left over 150 injured.In January nearly 40 people were killed when eight coaches and the engine of a passenger train derailed in the forest area of southern Andra Pradesh.A 2012 government report said almost 15,000 people were killed every year on Indias railways and described the loss of life as an annual massacre.Modis government has pledged to invest $137 billion over five years to modernise the crumbling railways, making them safer, faster and more efficient.His government has signed numerous deals with private companies to upgrade the network.Japan has agreed to provide $12 billion in soft loans to build Indias first bullet train, with Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expected to lay its foundation in September.

No reference to be filed against Justice Khosa: NA spokesperson

PTI, PPP move court against approval of Kulsoom Nawaz's nomination papers

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Opposition parties Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) move Lahore High Court (LHC) against approval of nomination papers of Kulsoom Nawaz for NA-120 by-election.PPP candidate Faisal Mir appealed against the green signal given to Kulsoom Nawaz by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by filing a petition. He argued that the returning officer (RO) approved her documents despite sufficient factual basis of her ineligibility.RO didn’t review UAE Iqama and ignored objection of being dependent on sacked premier Nawaz Sharif, he complained. Similarly, PTI also challenged the approval.PTI candidate Yasmin Rashid claimed that RO didn’t review contradictions her income tax details. She also objected on her dependency on Nawaz Sharif in the filed petition.Both PTI and PPP candidates have appealed LHC to declare Kulsoom Nawaz ineligible. Bilawal claimed that 2018 general elections will be his first and Imran Khan’s last.‘Nawaz never a revolutionist’Later on, Bilawal slammed his other political opponent and ex-PM Nawaz Sharif saying the word ‘revolution’ doesn’t suit you. “You can be fascist and conspirator but not revolutionary,” he added.
